The former Manchester United full-back has been in superb form for Russell Slade's Bluebirds so far this season
Fabio has been superb for Cardiff City this season
It’s not just Cardiff City supporters getting excited by ‘Fabulous Fabio’ this season, his own teammates are as full of admiration for the exciting defender as everyone else.
The Brazilian left-back has been getting some rave reviews of late, lifting another Fans’ Man-of-the-Match accolade in midweek as Russell Slade’s men put on a defiant showing to see off one of the Championship’s favourites this season, Middlesbrough 1-0.
Since arriving from Manchester United in January 2014 it would be fair to say the Brazilian has somewhat divided opinion in the Welsh capital.
There are those who see him as an all-action marauder, as happy in the opposition penalty area as his own, while others warn his forward thinking is always likely to cause problems when the Bluebirds are on the back foot.
Indeed, Cardiff manager Russell Slade originally had his reservations about the player he inherited from his predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Every player sometimes makes a mistake, but Fabio makes up for it with his moments of pure genius and sheer determination and drive!
When he lost the ball tues night he's chased 3 players down until he won it back or cleared danger! Sometimes you want to give him his own football to play With!
Gets man of the match almost every time he plays! Got to say something surely!
Top professional, great attitude to the game and will to succeed!

Given our lack of pace, drive and determination in midfield I can't understand why we don't play Fabio on the wing.
We have decent fullback that can do a good defensive job but releasing Fabio further up the pitch would, in my opinion, really help with our forward play.
Essentially we can never have and out and out winger in front of Fabio so why not make him one and stick a decent defensive fullback behind him.
But yeah, great player.

No doubt he will be the fall guy after a few bad results as usual.
Personally I like him, offers so many more positives than negatives.

I'm delighted! I gave him stick for real defensive weaknesses, but he has seriously improved.

He is a headless chicken, but has a heart of a lion and we know who will win in a fight between a lion and a chicken

. That's my philosophy on it.......Form is temporary. ..class is permanent

There is a maturity in his play this season, showing the kind of form that must have been behind Sir Alex decision to bring him over to the UK. Annis and Mason hope all is well in Santa Ponsa, heading off to the Cotswolds tomorrow not quite the same as the balmy Majorcan summer nights, but still looking forward to the break.

Got to agree with this 100% and is sometimes the difference, the rest follow his enthusiasm. A fans favourite

I second that, has limited the mistakes and channeled his passion better

He is quick and he is committed. He gives 100%. That buys a lot of credit with our fans understandably.
However, some of his positioning, his tackling, his heading, his final ball and his temperament are woeful.
If Whitts made some of the basic errors Fabio does he would be crucified but Fabio gets away with it. He's Championship quality at best.

I don't think the errors have been there too often this season.
Championship quality at best, is exactly where we are right now. Not many of our players would make the step up successfully

Its strange how we all see the game differently. No one is right or wrong.
I realise Im swimming against the tide on this one. Personally I think hes a good man to have on the bench to come on and cover a few positions across the back four and midfield. Beyond that Id sell him and invest the fee/wages in a striker.
I just dont get the widespread support for a defender who cant defend; alternatively a defender/wing back who attacks with no goals or assists, cant cross, cant shoot.
