" Get a grip and reality check "

Sun Oct 18, 2015 5:57 pm

We are sat 8th in the table and made a decent start, two draws on our latest travels albeit against a struggling preston. We are difficult to beat, we haven't had the easiest opening fixtures yet the expectations of some are ridiculous.

The thing I find funniest is the doom and gloom brigade who predicted relegation are now complaining we are 8th and can't beat Preston. Surely if you predicted we would struggle so badly, then a side sat 8th would be exceeding your expectations but No it's still not good enough. Just laughable. :laughing6: :laughing5:

Two home games coming up both winnable but would take 4 points

Well said we are doing well so far just need to be more clinical but other than that we are hard to beat. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

String fellow, I usually agree with you, but we've only got 8pts from our last 18pts,incl 2 from our last 2 away games, so if we are serious about promotion for me it had to be 6pts from our next 2 home games :thumbright:

I've seen enough of slade to know he is not capable of getting us promoted, will I call for his head... No I won't I'll support the team as always but if the club are truly serious about promotion then they need to get a good replacement in, and before all the usual say who else would we get etc well noone in their right mind wanted slade to begin with but he got the job there are plenty of managers out there who can do the job on limited budget. Slade for me will keep us up no question but he is tactically limited and as long as he is here we will only ever be mid table team at best,

Your right about being hard to beat and so far this season that has to be the big positive and I believe without Marshall getting sent off at Rotherham we would have got at least a draw out of that game.

I hope this Saadi has something about him because we are so short of pace up front it's frightening.

We are 8 points off the top and 9 points off the bottom , just over mid table where we will finish. :sladeout:

Agree and with Saadi having pace it could help bring the best out of Mason aswell. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

So you think we could get in a good replacement for Slade on a similar wage of 125k a year, who could improve on how we're doing now without being given a penny to spend?

We aren't ripping up trees, but we have made progress and have been decent at home. People are tending to judge off the back of a few results, but it's a very long season. Can't get carried away with two wins but equally not to disheartened with two draws.

One thing that is blatant is the lack of pace up front which we all agree with, defence and midfield is decent but room for improvement. Would love to see us out of the blocks against boro like we did against hull, play lacklustre on Tuesday and we will get beat. I would take four points right now

So you think Slade is the answer? The club if they are serious about promotion need to release the purse strings on a decent manager there's plenty of managers out there, Jones constantly had us challenging with no budget, slade is not a good enough manager to get any team promoted from this division ( something the club has said that they want to achieve this season) I never call for a manager to be sacked I'm simply saying if the club are serious about wanting promotion this season then they will have to change manager we won't get promoted under slade

I agree with Darran, to get out of this league you need a cash injection at the right time (Fraz Campbell etc) If it was my money, I wouldn't give it to Slade simply because I don't rate what he is doing enough to warrant a gamble. We are stuck mid-table for the forseeable imo

But we are not serious about promotion, nice if it happens but balancing the books is the main priority.

I agree that balancing the books is a priority but the club themselves have said that the aim is to get promoted this season and under slade it won't happen

All clubs say that....

We are a mess, but we were a lot worse. Barely a saleable asset except Marshall and Manga, some players on ridiculous wages. Malky but mainly Ole got us into this pickle and the we still have a way to go.

IMO Slade has done well. We'll emerge next season a championship club with a better balance sheet and a much reduced squad.

But Tan isn't going to release the purse strings! If Slade gets replaced, someone else will be brought in on a similar wage to Slade. The reality is no decent manager at this level will join us for only 125k a year to work for a crackpot owner.

The only alternative to Slade would be to take a huge gamble and bring in a young, lower league manager on 125k a year and expect him to somehow work the miracle of improving us even further without being given a penny to spend. That could end in disaster.

So, who would be your alternative to Slade? Who can we attract on 125k a year who you think can do a better job than Slade?

I always have high expectations because I'm a Cardiff fan and I want us to succeed!

If asked are they realistic I would answer its not pace which is the priority up front it's goals.

All that's missing is those goals and if they start coming we are a top 2 side.

I agree with that Tony, a quality striker capable of twenty or so goals a season would make all the difference. Unfortunately, they don't come cheap, and I suspect that there are a dozen or so teams in this division who would feel that they are in the same position as us and that a top striker could propel them towards automatic promotion. A natural goalscorer can make all the difference to a team, and imagine what Wales would be capable of if we had an Ian Rush playing in this current team. Ps. Would I be showing my age if I said I still have the album that you have as your avatar.

You are of course right but its hard to get into form if you don't play. All I can go on he has always scored goals, including one against Barca on the weekend and I was greatly impressed the 40 or so minutes I saw him play.
