Cardiff City could be without striker Kenwyne Jones for two weeks after it emerged the frontman has been left on crutches having suffered an injury scare on international duty with Trinidad & Tobago.
Jones was missing from the Bluebirds' squad as they returned to Championship action against Preston at Deepdale.
It had been assumed the 31-year-old was forced to sit out the clash because of the lengthy travelling involved in representing his country with games against Panama and Nicaragua seeing him make a 13,000 mile trip to and from South Wales.
But it has now been reported Jones suffered a heavy blow to the leg in Thursday night's friendly with Nicaragua in Port of Spain that saw the former Southampton, Sunderland and Stoke marksman head to hospital for X-Rays.
A statement released by the Trinidad & Tobago FA revealed the scans showed he had suffered no bone damage having been stretchered off in the 73rd minute of the goalless draw after a collision in the penalty area.
It continued: “Team Doctor Israel Dowlat stated that Jones sustained soft tissue injury to the left lower leg. He is presently non-weightbearing with crutches and is on anti inflammatory medication. He should be able to take the field again in at least two weeks.”
However, Jones' publicist has denied last year's top scorer knows the full extent of his lay-off as yet and was quoted as saying that he still requires scans to determine just how long he will be out of contention.
“Right now, the prognosis is touch and go and depends on how the injury settles over the next 5 days or so—both with the rest and medication being administered,” Tenille Clarke is reported as saying. “It’s still very early to make a finite call on the lay-off period needed for his full recovery.
“Of course, this position is tentative and we’ll be sure to have a development once some time passes, and all requisite checks are made upon Kenwyne’s return to (his) home base in Wales.”
Jones is the Soca warrior's captain and most high profile player, scoring in the 2-1 friendly win over Panama ahead of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign openers against Guatemala and the USA next month.
Newcastle loanee Sammy Ameobi started in place of Jones at Preston.

Short of options now with Jones, Saadi and Macheda out.
Left with Revell, Sammy super sub and Joe Mason.
Might want to go 4-5-1 now and chuck Noone and/ or Kennedy in
