Bristol City: Cardiff away ticket sales may be hit by return of restrictions
By Western Daily Press
October 14, 2015
Bristol City's hopes of taking a full contingent to Cardiff for this month's Severnside derby showdown have been hit by the return of unpopular restrictions for travelling fans.
Robins supporters have been allocated 1,500 tickets for the SkyBet Championship fixture, which will take place at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, October 26.
These go on sale online to season ticket holders this morning, but a combination of travel restrictions and coverage of the game live on Sky Sports TV could put fans off.
Strict rules governing away supporters at Severnside derby matches were lifted three seasons ago, only to be restored following trouble the last time the two sides met in Cardiff in February 2013.
That fixture was not designated a "bubble match" – a game considered by police to pose a greater risk of crowd trouble – and fans were allowed to choose their own method of transport.
But disorder flared among a small minority of fans outside the stadium and in a nearby pub following the match, prompting both clubs and local police forces to reconsider their stance.
Following lengthy discussions, the decision has been taken to re-impose restrictions on the free movement of travelling supporters. As a consequence, City fans will be required to collect tickets from Cardiff West Services at junction 33 of the M4 on their way to the match between 6.15 and 6.45pm. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7.45pm.
A statement on Bristol City's website said: "The club fully appreciates this will have an impact on the majority of City fans, whose only intention is to support their team in a law-abiding manner.
"It is the club's hope that the fixture passes off without incident, meaning these unfortunate restrictions can be lifted once more in the future."
Those Bristol City supporters who choose to travel to the game, will be issued with a match voucher, which can then be exchanged for a ticket at Cardiff West Services on the night of the game.
While season ticket holders can purchase online from 10am today, phone sales will begin on Tuesday, October 20. Members will be able to buy online from Monday, October 19 at 10am with phone sales available the next day. Any remaining tickets will be placed on sale from Wednesday, October 21.
The return fixture takes place at Ashton Gate on Saturday, March 5.

Yes - that is almost a certainty.

That's sad and it has to be said that (as usual) the small number of foolish Bristol City fans who caused a problem in the city centre have spoiled it for the majority
Our guy (so-called 'supporter' but not in my eyes

) who cowardly 'attacked' the Bristol fan on Sloper Road won't have helped either when everything was looked at
Basically, the Authorities must believe the minority simply cannot be trusted and the majority now have to suffer

It's a shame as it takes the enjoyment out of what should be an exciting day out at the SEVERNSIDE derby but hopefully this time it can pass trouble free and in future the restrictions can be lifted. I don't think that it is any excuse for a lose of attendance though. It just means getting thier supporters coach or driving yourself/getting a lift to the services to collect tickets etc. Not a big problem, we've had to do it plenty of times! It's a short trip so shouldn't make any difference. My questions are -does it apply to Bristol fans who will be sitting in the Cardiff city hospitality area as you wud usually arrive 1-2 hours pre arch. What happens if you want to get the train?

Collecting tickets from services is to stop people getting trains and drinking in city centres etc.

Restrictions demanded by South Wales Police and reportedly against the wishes of both clubs
14 October 2015
Bristol City supporters will have bubble restrictions imposed upon them for their match away to Cardiff City on October 26. The arrangements were lifted for the last match between the two but have been reintroduced by South Wales Police, reportedly against the wishes of both clubs. It means that Bristol City fans, who have been given just two weeks’ notice about the measures, will have to meet at a service station outside Cardiff to exchange their vouchers for valid match tickets. With the match live on TV on a Monday night, the Bristol City Supporters Trust have suggested that it will result in a loss of income, support and most importantly freedom of movement for the fans. You can read their full statement here.
