Expand CCS!

Mon Oct 12, 2015 11:55 am

This talk about going to the rugger stadium for big Wales matches is rubbish.
The players want to stay, the true fans want to stay at CCS. The stadium was designed to have extra tiers of needed.
The Welsh FA should put its hand in its pocket, backed by government to expand CCS, the true home of Wales football, and the City, of course.

not sure we can go too much further can we?

Looks weird being 14k city fans in a 33k ground as it is. Imagine if it was in a 40k stadium?

Still got the capacity to add extra tiers to the two ends.

Now is not the right time though. Should be done if and when we have a prolonged stay in the Premier League.

Yup. Like stokes plan. Think they're increasing the Britannia to 30k soon.

Still dont think we can though, im sure there was some sort of limit put on it when all of the shops/restaurant was built. Something about there not being enough exits from the ground or something.

City get to the topflight somehow on an absolute peanuts budget and then actually research into who they're buying instead of wasting £50m willy nilly

This. It was cause riddler sold land to McDonald's. Otherwise think it could've gone to 60k max. Certain that was the max.

That red tier was closed because it was mothballed and having re-opened for the Israel game I can completely not finished and we went down to one floor and it a health and safety construction inspectors heaven and supporters would need to take hard hats ffs!!! Theres no way UEFA would pass that stand if they knew that there is live wiring dangling from the cellings and floors still

Thought that was finished? Apart from the roof coming off due to a bit of wind. :laughing6:

Is it f**k, even charged me VIP rate (£50 per ticket) to watch the game in what I can describe as an absolutely shambolic environment. I went to Level 4 in the Grandstand for the Belgium game and was so impressed that I then took my father thinking that the level 4 VIP which was the same charge you would get the same experience. Nothing further from the truth and up until now I'm still apologising to my dad about it although much of it is now tongue in cheek. Its a f*cking disgrace

Wonderful. So money well spent by the club then. well I'm sure there wasn't other areas of the club they could've spent the money...like I dunno developing the YOUTH? Nah.

No, the stadium holds approx 32k and there's capacity for approx 5k above the canton and 5k above the family stand. So that's 42.

I disagree with the op as we'd be playing in an even more lifeless stadium week in week out just for a handful of Wales games sell outs. We need to establish ourselfs in the PL before we even think about more expansion.

Pretty sure 60k was initially the plan until riddler sold land to McDonald's

May have been but what I said is the current expansion capacity. Still far too big for us atm

Fair enough. Riddler out. :old:

Re: Expand CCS!

There is potential to add a tier to both the Canton and Grange, taking the capacity to somewhere around 43,000.

Not that I think it is required but it can be increased.

I believe the original plans were to take the capacity to 58,000.

If the Canton and Grange upper tiers were added and then the corners in the upper were joined all the way round the stadium then the capacity would probably be somewhere around 50,000 approx.

Re: Expand CCS!

There is absolutely no need for a bigger stadium. If the FAW ever decide they want a bigger stadium they'll be down the Millennium.
The one thing I think we do need is the outside smartened up a bit.

Re: Expand CCS!

We could have had a stadium like mk dons if we done the expansion properly. Although I do like the look of the new stand, I'd prefer it if we had an mk dons style expansion

Bridgend_bluebird wrote:Pretty sure 60k was initially the plan until riddler sold land to McDonald's

About 10 years ago Riddler held a fans forum in the tower block hotel in Cardiff City Centre and I remember him explaining all of this.

The original plans were for a 58k stadium but due to CCFC almost going bankrupt and a review on the expense of building the new stadium it was decided to downgrade the max capacity to around 40k.

He cited Old Trafford as an example in that a basic bowl would be built and if needed tiers could be added later. It was still possible to upgrade to 58k but it would basically involve knocking the whole stadium down and rebuilding as the foundation which were laid could-not cope.

When he sold off the McDonalds land I think that put the final nail into the 58k plan as it affected the original planning permission. Why I don't know?

Re: Expand CCS!

No need for expansion.

As soon as Wales start losing games again the crowds will disappear just like with the City.

Human nature to be fickle I'm afraid. Not long ago Wales games filled the Millenium Stadium and they could do so again at the moment but once the level of success trails off people won't bother just like they didn't for the last few qualifying tournaments where the CCS was far from full, even without the new stand.

Who'd pay for it anyway - the Welsh FA? :laughing6: :laughing6:

They are too busy raking in as much as they can whilst spending as little as possible. The blazers would have a heart attack at the thought of spending money on a stadium expansion, or indeed on anything.

Perhaps they can ask Vinnie to build the extensions and add it on to the debt owed by the club - that would suit the WFA just fine.

Yeah when you go to MK dons and Brighton etc you realise what a cheap crock of shit ours looks like from the outside with plastic cladding
