Geraint Williams’ Wales U21 team remain undefeated in qualifying group 5 of the UEFA U21 Championship following an excellent 0-0 draw against top seeds Denmark in Aalborg.
Denmark made a good start to the game with Christian Nørgaard coming close with several chances in the first 15 minutes and Andrew Hjulsager also saw a shot blocked.
Having withstood Denmark’s pressure, Wales began to come forward and on the half-hour mark both Ryan Hedges and Ellis Harrison drew saves from Denmark goalkeeper Jeppe Højbjerg.
Moments before half-time, Denmark striker Marcus Ingvartsen nearly broke the deadlock but he missed the target.
During the 51st minute of play a Lee Evans free-kick caused the Denmark defence some problems as Tommy O’Sullivan got on the end of it and nearly put Wales into the lead. Shortly after, Harrison had another opportunity but sent his effort off target.
As the match progressed, Harry Wilson created several chances to score but none of his efforts were able to beat Højbjerg.
Both teams had chances to snatch all three points late on with Patrick Da Silva having a shot blocked in the Wales box in the 90th minute before Jake Charles came close deep inside added time.
Elsewhere in Group 5, Luxembourg lost 1-0 at home to Romania and Bulgaria beat Armenia 2-0. The Bulgarians top the group with Romania second.
