Sam Allardyce has agreed to become the next Sunderland manager.

09/10/2015

Right, let's kick things off this morning with a quick roundup of some of the biggest stories making today's back pages...

Arsene Wenger has admitted he took a gamble signing Santi Cazorla - but former Arsenal star Robert Pires convinced him to take a punt (Sun)

Man City are watching Vitesse Arnhem teenager Thomas Buitink (Mail)

Sam Allardyce has been offered the job at Sunderland - and the Black Cats' top brass are confident he will join them (Mirror)
German forward Mario Gotze insists he does not want to leave Bayern Munich (Star)

Petr Cech has revealed he left Chelsea for Arsenal because he felt that the club had 'turned the page' on him (Express)

Spurs have been watching Gent star Laurent Depoitre as the club continues to search for a new striker ahead of the January transfer window, while West Brom's Saido Berahino is still a target (Telegraph)

Arsenal have been put on red alert after long-term target Karim Benzema expressed his disappointment after being continually substituted at Real this season, saying that he is "fed up" with his situation (Independent)

Thomas Muller might not end up at Old Trafford but Sadio Mane could. The 23-year-old has scored four goals in his last three games for Southampton and was particularly impressive against United last month.

Louis van Gaal had a bid rejected for the Senegalese in the summer but Saints manager Ronald Koeman admitted at the weekend Mane is unlikely to stay at St. Mary's for the long-term.

Celtic are apparently keen on James Wilson, who made his first appearance of the season at Arsenal on Sunday.

Scot Bennett: Loan switch to Newport

Newport have signed Notts County defender Scot Bennett on a three-month loan deal.

Bennett trained with his new team-mates on Thursday and, subject to international clearance, will go straight into the Exiles' squad for their Sky Bet League 2 fixture at Mansfield on Saturday.

The 24-year-old told the club's official website: "I heard about the interest on Tuesday morning and that there was a possibility of coming to Newport.

"I have played against John (Sheridan) when he was manager at Plymouth and today (Thursday) is the first time I have had a chance to meet him and talk with him.

"It's a new relationship for me, but hopefully it is one that will work.

"League 2 is a very tight-knit group - one minute you can be losing five games and the next thing you can be picking up five wins on the bounce and be right back in contention.

"I can't wait to get involved and hopefully I will be able to play a part on Saturday and the team can pick up the three points."

Bennett has made three appearances for Notts County since moving to Meadow Lane from Exeter in the summer.
