NEWPORT County AFC have confirmed the appointment of former Cardiff City striker Warren Feeney as new boss John Sheridan’s assistant.
The 34-year-old former Northern Ireland international is heading to Rodney Parade from Linfield, where he had held the reins since April 2014.
Feeney played for Cardiff between 2007 and 2010, had a short spell on loan at Swansea City and his wife Katy and four children live in Newport.
Sheridan joined County last week following the dismissal of Terry Butcher and Feeney is delighted to be helping the former Republic of Ireland midfielder, who he played for a short while at Plymouth in 2013, in the battle to climb off the basement of League Two.
“I have fond memories of playing in this part of the world, my family home is still in Langstone and I have undertaken my coaching qualifications through the FA of Wales. It is also a bonus to be reunited with John Sheridan,” he said.
“I saw this as the perfect club to return to the Football League with and I look forward to be involved with the first-team on a day-to-day basis.
“The season is still in the early stages and looking at the players the club have at their disposal I am confident that we can negotiate our way off the bottom of the table.”
Feeney will link up with the team later this week with Mike Flynn and Byron Anthony continuing to assist Sheridan ahead of Saturday’s trip to Mansfield.
