Up to 9,000 fans expected at crucial game between old rivals at Racecourse Stadium

Police have warned that they want no trouble at the coming Wrexham vs Tranmere gameWrexham fans celebrate victory in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere
Police have warned they will clamp down on troublemakers ahead of Wrexham ’s Tuesday clash with Tranmere.

Extra police are being put on duty for the evening game at the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium with nearly 9,000 fans expected in a sell-out to watch the National League match.

It will be one of the biggest crowds at the Racecourse in months and police have reassured they will be keeping a close eye to ensure the game goes off without incident.

Similar warnings have been made ahead of Wrexham vs Chester 'bubble matches '.

While the vast majority of supporters are expected to behave themselves, Wrexham Town Inspector Paul Wycherley, said both clubs “have an element who can cause issues”.

Insp Wycherley said: “This is the largest game in terms of expected crowd that we have experienced for quite some time.

“All partner agencies have been involved in detailed planning via the Safety Advisory Group and we have sufficient police officers working to deal with any incidents”.

Local community councillor Phil Wynn has talked with all residents who live near the ground to provide reassurance the significantly larger than usual number of police officers working the game are necessary.

Inspector Wycherley added: “The vast majority of supporters who will attend this fixture are simply coming to watch a good game of football.

“Unfortunately though both clubs have an element who can cause issues and my message to them is simple.

If you misbehave we have sufficient officers on duty to deal with you very swiftly”.

At the conclusion of the fixture, Mold Road will be closed for a short time to allow the crowd to disperse safely, he said.

“We will ensure this closure is only for as short a time as possible to reduce inconvenience to a minimum,” Inspector Wycherley added.

A total of 1200 tickets have been issued to Tranmere, these tickets have to be pre-purchased and none will be on general sale on the night.

The last time the Dragons sold out at home was for Wrexham’s 150th anniversary game against Grimsby in October last year .

Wrexham Supporters Trust spokesman Spencer Harris said: “We have been getting 6,000 fans at the Racecourse without some away teams bringing supporters, it has been great.

“It has been a fantastic start to the season and we have been averaging two points a game. Tranmere is a tough game, but there again they are all tough games in this league.

Fair play, that's impressive. That's more than what Cewnty took to Wembley for probably the biggest game in their history. Hope Wrexham replace Cewnty in the League.
I've been in the Racecourse in front of nearly 30k in about 1980. Wales v USSR, was so packed, I saw hardly anything of the game.

Actual crowd 6706. Not as good as they had hoped but better than most lower league teams.

Tranmere , who are owned by a former work colleague of mine, are getting good crowds at home as well and will be financed for a real push for promotion back to League 2 at the first attempt.
