Russell Slade has admitted managing Cardiff City has been tougher job that he ever expected – but claims the club is more stable than the one he walked into a year ago.

Tuesday marks 12-month anniversary of Slade's surprise appointment to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Bluebirds' hot-seat.

It was a decision that attracted major criticism from supporters with the former lower league specialist still struggling to convince some fans he can lead the team back to the Premier League.

Yet the 54-year-old has managed to slowly turn around the side's fortunes and can move into third-place in the Championship with victory over unbeaten league leaders Brighton on Saturday.

And he is convinced Cardiff are in a healthier state as a side and as a club than the one he was introduced to last October, admitting taking on the mission to achieve that being more difficult that he had imagined.

“It's been challenging,” said Slade ahead of the clash with his former club just shy of his first year marker as Bluebirds boss. “Every manager faces that and you have to embrace the challenges and overcome them.

“At times it's been more difficult than I'd imagined - we’ve had issues to deal with, but that’s part and parcel of what a manager has to do.

he still had do it though, I have been very impressed with the improvement this season, my nan would struggle a bit more after the initial impact she would of had taking over from clueless Ole

But, I make that judgement after the total fcuk up Malky with zero experience at the top end made of his stint.

Anyway, i would keep Slade if we went up. Keep all our players and just try to pay Vinny off once and for all.

Its never going to happen though......mid table at best

Slade has barely spent a penny this season so if Slade does manage to take us up, he will have more than earned the right to manage us in the Premiership.
