A forum for all things Cardiff City

I went into Town last night as me and my wife were going to the New Theatre to see Blood Brothers. We parked the car down the bay to watch the rugby and have something to eat.The plan was to catch the train up from the bay to watch the show, then catch the train back down to the bay and drive home. On the train from the bay to Queen St,we told we couldn't leave the station but had to go to Central and then walk to the New Theatre although this didn't happen in the end. We were then told that Queen St would be shut for the rest of the night and if we wanted to catch the train back down to the bay,we would have to walk to Central,to catch a train to Queen St, then catch the train from there. There were no signs saying this at Cardiff Bay train station and this was not posted on the internet site. When we came out of the New Theatre, it was quite quiet and I can't see any reason why Queen St was still shut. Do they shut Queen St when the Six Nations is on? I know the rugby is important but some people have a life other than the rugby, and arrangements should be in place for other events in the city.

Queen St is always like this mate, even when there is concerts etc going on at the mil stad. They normally have signs up at Q st a few days in advance to warn that this is the case

That's fair enough and I'll know for the future but there were no signs at Cardiff Bay and we only found out when the guard told us on the train.

Queen street station with 1000s of pissed up people on tight platforms equals one thing with trains passing through. Trust me i've seen the state and aftermath trains can put a person in when hit and its not nice. so glad they shut it for safety reasons if that's the case, as for making it known to the public then that's down to whoever makes the decision to shut it to get staff to put it other it there weather that be the internet or signs & posters ect

I agree with shutting it for safety reasons because I'd hate the thought of someone getting badly hurt but when we walked past about half ten,it was really quiet.

Queen Street is always closed when there is a major event on at the Millenium stadium and it has been this way pretty much since the stadium opened! And while I can't speak for the station as I haven't been there in a while, certainly the website does state so!
The main reason isn't because of the station itself (because any issues could have been sorted in the recent rebuild) it is simply because there isn't a large enough area outside the station to housing the queuing system that would be needed. Cardiff Central has the large area to the rear of the station that can be used for valleys passengers, Queen Street just has a small pavement.
