As Cardiff City go in search of the players who can lead them to the Premier League, Nathan Blake says their Euro scouting network must be right

Cardiff City legend Nathan Blake has urged Russell Slade to use his continental contacts to land the players he needs in January.

After it emerged Belgian partner club KVK Kortrijk had helped secure the deal to sign striker Idriss Saadi, Blake says scouring the continent is a wise idea, as long as the club's recruitment process is good.

Speaking in this week's live Cardiff City debate, the former Premier League striker said: “Europe is a big place. You don't have to go and spend £10m to find these players but they are out there.

“If you've got a good scouting and recruitment process, you should be able to find them.

“You just have to be prepared to take a chance.”

With loan deals looking unlikely, Blake says the Bluebirds need to strengthen in two areas in January to compete at the top end of the Championship for the rest of the season.

He said: “If I was manager I would get a midfield general and someone I can start or bring on at any time.

“They need someone up high with that pace that can scare defenders.”

Highly rated Senegalese midfielder Sidy Sarr has signed for Kortrijk, and is the sort of player the Bluebirds transfer committee could take a look at if he impresses in the ProLeague.
