Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Cardiff City: Match Preview
Date and Time: Saturday 3rd October (15.00)
Venue: AMEX Community Stadium
Referee: Charles Breakspear
The Bluebirds returned to winning ways last weekend against a struggling Charlton Athletic but this weeks fixture brings a much sterner test as Russell Slade and his men prepare to face table-topping Brighton. The Seagulls are yet to lose a game in the Sky Bet Championship as they continue to lead the way.
There is no doubt that Cardiff face a very difficult task this weekend as they travel to the AMEX stadium. Brighton are the only unbeaten team in the Championship and Chris Hughton’s men are showing little sign of slipping up at the top. The Seagulls are a point clear of second placed Boro and a safe six points clear of third placed Reading.
Despite winning two thirds of their games, Brighton have suffered a minor slip-up in recent games, drawing their last two. The Seagulls were somewhat disappointing in their last outting when they came away from Bolton with a 2-2 draw. A late Gary Madine goal earned Bolton the point after Murphy was involved in a harsh sending off for Brighton.
Jamie Murphy was sent off with fifteen minutes remaining at the Macron Stadium when he quite literally slipped into a mis-timed challenge on Neil Danns. Brighton have stated that they will appeal the red card in the hope that Murphy’s three match ban will be rescinded or reduced. A decision should be made before the weekends fixture.
The Sussex side did well to escape relegation last year, slumping to an unimpressive twentieth place finish. Despite last seasons misery, Chris Hughton seems to have worked wonders over the summer and with help from Tomer Hemed (5) and Lua Lua’s (4) goals, the Seagulls find themselves setting the benchmark for the rest of the Championship.
Following two losses, Cardiff returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 win against Guy Luzon’s Charlton Athletic. The South-Wales side went behind early in the second half but showed resilience to come back and win the game through Joe Mason and Sean Morrison’s goals.
Cardiff have moved down from fifth to sixth during the week following Birmingham’s win over Brentford but if Cardiff can somehow take a win from the AMEX then they could find themselves as high as third with positions 3-8 already separated by just goal difference.
Russell Slade returns to his former hunting ground on Saturday and he is liked by Brighton fans for his remarkable achievement as Brighton manager in 2009. Slade was appointed boss in March with Brighton all but certainly going down but Slade steered them clear of trouble and Brighton remained in League One.
