RUSSELL SLADE ON YESTERDAYS WIN

27/09/15

BAY Terry Phillips

It was important for us to bounce back, that was big thing. We need a reaction and there was a determination to recover from the disappointment of two games where we were a little bit unfortunate.

Our job was to brush ourselves down and fight to earn a result. Despite our domination at times in the first half we were unable to convert and that was frustrating.

There was a significant event in first half in terms of the incident when Joe Mason went down. The linesman has given it (a penalty), but the referee felt he should overlook it.

Having watched it again Joe has been hard done by in all honesty.

It really is one that is hard to fathom out.

But the important thing was that we showed great character, resilience and a togetherness to earn the win after conceding the first goal.

Russell Slade,

Terry Phillips : You left out Sammy Ameobi and recalled Kenwyne Jones at centre-forward for this game. What was your thinking?

Russell Slade: Sammy Ameobi will stretch a game out and that’s what he did when he went on. Sammy gives the opposition something totally new to think about.

He poses a totally different kind of threat and when a team has had 60 or 70 minutes of Kenwyne Jones sending on Sammy is the right recipe for us at times. And it’s working.
