How Fabio went from Cardiff City's nowhere man to a real fans favourite with his swashbuckling style

27 SEP 2015

BY GARETH ROGERS

Cardiff City came from behind to beat Charlton but everybody is talking about right back Fabio Da Silva

Cardiff City's Brazilian full back Fabio is now a true hero of the fans.

After another swashbucking performance, despite switching to right back against Charlton, the ex Man United man had Bluebirds fans cooing over his performance.

Before, and during and the 2-1 win, excited fans took to social vvmedia to share their homages to their hero.

And after, everybody was talking about him.

He was even featured on the front of today's match programme.

And he was so excited by the fact, he shared it with his 232,000 fans on Instagram.

During his first season in South Wales, the Bluebirds fans didn't take to Fabio as a string of defensive mishaps helped to consign Cardiff to relegation out of the Premier League.

But he was starting to win them over last season before Russell Slade decided Scott Malone and Lee Peltier were better options at full-back.

Now this season, the only Bluebird to have appeared in a Champions League final, has established himself as a hero of the fans with his all action style and attacking instincts.

Bloody great player and I have a sneaky feeling that come January we will be fending off bids from Premiership teams for him.

Great player for Cardiff City FC and proving why he spent more than a fruit picking season at Man Utd

A great asset to this club and glad people are now realising that! :ayatollah:

I would be tempted to give him a try as a winger

Tony totally agree, Fabio has been my fav player from day one :thumbright: :thumbright:
January might be worrying

To think Slade was not sure about him and at one stage Fabio did not know if he was wanted at City.

Shows how fickle our fan base really is. Last season he was "totally crap" "should be sold" " be allowed nowhere near the first team"

You do wonder why Fabio who loves going forward isn't actually a forward? I call it the Declan John paradox and wonder why these players are not tried further forward.

Said it all along.. Fabio is a class act, wears his heart on his sleeve and shows real passion for the cause..

Fabio just needs consistency of games and to feel wanted and he will give u 110% in return.. Yes he is a bit lackadaisical at times and can be a bit rash and may even give stupid balls away from time to time but he is still a young raw talent with passion, pace and power which is exactly what is needed to wear that shirt

Keep it Up Fabio

May be fickle is the correct term but personally I think its a reflection on the players current form. Of course a players form can come from how he is coached or even treated by the management.

Whatever the reason he has proved himself and Slade would be bonkers not to select him based on his current form.

My only issue with him is where to play him. To me he is a right back given that he is mainly right footed. He has always given his all for the club and is one of those players who clearly loves the game.

Yesterday he was probably man of match and he was solid defensively and excellent going forward.

I wasnt sure on him defensively but he is proving me wrong and he is a joy to watch :thumbright: he really is we got to look out because Prem teams could be sniffing for him.

Best player on the pitch by a country mile again yesterday, I agree he would make an excellent winger out on the left.

I've spent a shedload of time on the forum since he first arrived arguing with the tossers who keep putting him down.

Great attacker, great attitude and a great defender. Our best player at the moment and for a large part at the start of last season.

Best wingback in the championship he's so good going forward and has an incredible engine.

We are very lucky to have him.

I was also a Fabio-sceptic and he was very suspect defensively. However, with Connolly, our player of the season so far without doubt.
