What happened?

Fri Sep 25, 2015 8:38 am

What happened to the football fan that used to just love watching 90 minutes of football regardless of the result?

I have seen countless threads over the past few weeks about atmosphere, lack of ambition, Tan is clueless, Slade is clueless, we'll never gain promotion like this etc...

I am classed as a new fan as I was only a nipper growing up when Cardiff were going through the difficult years and only attended the odd few games a season with my dad. When I turned 16 and started working I got my first season ticket and have renewed every year since (12 years now). For me though, I did'nt buy a season ticket because I thought we were going to get promoted or for the chance of an FA Cup ticket. I bought one because I enjoyed watching 90 minutes of football, having a sing song and a few beers with the lads. At the time I bought my first season ticket a lot of people seemed to be just like me but that seems to have changed.

Why is everyone so pre occupied with promotion, playing amazing football, smashing teams week in week out instead of just enjoying watching two teams playing 90 minutes of football?

The other day when we lost too Hull 2-0. Most on here, including myself thouroughly enjoyed the game even though we had lost. The atmosphere was a lot better than we have seen for a number of years and it reminded my a little of the old days of everyone just enjoying the spectacle infront of them instead of the long term goal of promotion.

My point is, until fans lower their expectations and just start enjoying the game that is being presented infront of them then we will never improve the atmosphere in the ground.

I'll be there Saturday getting behind the team and enjoying the day regardless of the result. out :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Morning Mikey27,

I agree 100% mate with what you say and understand, as I feel the same.

Could be down to age as I get similar feelings with life these days !!!!

I do not know for certain that these factors are relevant but seems to me after watching the Bluebirds since 1969/70 season, when my dad first took me down Ninian, these factors could be down to:-

1) Money - we are teated like customers rather than loyal supporters.
2) Money - For the average "walk in" type of fan - expensive and so many other family activities on offer.
3) Money - when fans see and hear players wages and then some players seem to give no loyalty to their club.

I am no expert but this is my honest opinion.

The loyal and hardened fans will always turn up and support the team through thick and thin (and God knows we have seen a few thin times) but for the majority, I do think they have fallen out of love with the whole situation in football.

As I say, looking back at the past with rose tinted glasses is never a good idea but it does seem like things have changed for the worse.

THE ANSWER ?

Blooobirds Forever !!! :bluebird:  :old:

Im a new fan as well. My son aged 8 asked me to take him to watch Cardiff City at the beginning of last season. We loved it and spending some quality time together and talking about the football after the match.

So much so, we got our first season ticket last season and renewed immediately for this season. Everyone else was moaning about the football and managers, but personally we just enjoyed the day out and watching the football together. When the results or quality weren't good, at least we had something to talk about afterwards.

I appreciate that we haven't been impacted by the re-brand like other long loyal fans (which I still think was utterly out of order), but me and my son looked above the sometimes poor quality football.

It has been mentioned that football can be like a drug and Im beginning to appreciate this. I love going to the football with my young son and that was after missing out on the season in the Premier League. However, we went to every home match last season and this season so far, as well as on away trips with CCSC.

So to me this highlights the importance of bringing new fans and schools into the club. Like be, the parents might start to enjoy it as well.

Blooooobirds :)

Funny how money has an adverse affect on most if not all of your life ain't it?

Money doesn't buy you happiness apparently. They're right it buys you life.

What's that got to do with fans turning up and making an atmosphere or acting like spoilt brats because they don't like the manager.
