" UPDATE ON DAVID MARSHALL "

Regarding David Marshalls harsh sending off at Rotherham.

The story that has come out.

The Ref never saw the incident, only saw the player telling him Marshall had kicked out,but linesman backed the Rotherham player.
The video does not really show Marshall making much contact, but it does show clearly the Rotherham player holding Marshall back and trying to prevent Marshall from throwing or kicking the ball out.

So really the first card should of been against the Rotherham player.

Marshalls response was wrong as even though he did not make contact,he did lash out with his knee, and did deserve some kind of punishment.

The Penalty, sending off and 3 match ban were well over the top,so City appealed on the grounds it was no where near violent conduct or as bad as first made out by the Rotherham player.

It was put before a mixture of Welsh and an English panel.
What did not help was Russell Slade speaking out in the press against his own player and condemning Marshall

So City appealed that it was never violent conduct and that Marshall had already been punished enough and on those grounds the ban from a 3 match was reduced to a 2 match.

My opinion Slade should off either backed Marshall or kept his mouth shut and showed some solidarity, perhaps we would of even had a better case then??

I also think some of our fans were way out of order in their reactions against David Marshall

Now let's get behind David Marshall and show our support :thumbright: :ayatollah:

He DID make contact, the Rotherham player should have been punished as well but Marshall should have kept his temper in check

What Slade did or didn't say made not a blind bit of difference! As you say player told ref what happened linesman confirmed thats what happened, so red card and pen, must assume reduction is because of mitigation! It seems goalies get reduction of one match if can show 3 match ban to harsh! As its happened few times before to goalies.

Can anyone explain why Marshall was still given a 2 game ban for his reactionary foot flick in self defence to getting pulled by Derbyshire while Arsenal's Gabriel had his ban completely overturned for lashing out with his back heel kick?

Apart from the obvious biase towards Arsenal being a London club ahead of Marshall being Scottish playing for a Welsh club, I'm still scratching my head figuring out why Cardiff and Marshall are being treated unfairly. The fact the referee didn't even see it and the linesman fell for Derbyshire's pathetic antics gesturing he got properly kicked is incredible!

It was never a sending off and a ludicrous decision, just one of several incorrect, controversial decisions that go against us by the incompetent officlas and English FA. We've been well and trully cheated with this decision, the lack of consistency between the two incidents is frightening!

Ross, Because from what I am hearing City did not plead Marshalls innocence, just that the ban against Marshall was over the top.

The club and Slade have failed miserably in my opinion
I would have expected Slade to have backed his own player
Slade again showing his inability as a manager
First look at the video you think that the referee is correct in the sending off
However when you study it there is only one the committing the foul and that is Derbyshire
Very bad decisions by the ref ,linesman, and unfortunately our own manager Russell Slade who I'm future if you won't back your players shit the f**k up

I couldn't go to the game but watched the incident back many times and whilst I understand that the ref can send someone off for retaliation, this didn't warrant either a sending off or a penalty. The fact the the lino sided with Derbyshire after he clearly spins Marshall around by his shirt defies belief. The general standard of refereeing certainly across the PL and Championship needs addressing as they are a law unto themselves - we've all witnessed game changing errors of judgement that are at best incompetent and at worst are deliberate. For the FA or relevant association to adjust a 3 match ban to a 2 match ban says it all. No action against Derbyshire and you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be no action against the ref and his supporting officials who are supposed to work as a team. I've always said that like politicians, people who want to be refs shouldn't be allowed to.

Sorry Annis I lovbge marshall the besk keeper I have seen in a City shirt made some of the best saves I have seen there but he has lost his temper to many times and has been close before in other games.

Why move the ban from 3 to 2 why not 1 or cancel it all together but Slade only spoke after Marshall apologised
to the team and I do not believe Slade was wrong or it would have made any difference at all.

I still think Marshall should not be captain on matcxh day but could be for the team off the pitch but not on the pitch
1 as he needs to lear to calm down and I dont thing the goal keeper should be captain on the pitch
