Football fans use belts as weapons in mass brawl on Worcester/Droitwich train

By James Connell

23 September 2015

A BRAWL involving 30 football fans using belts as weapons broke out on a train between Birmingham and Worcester.

British Transport Police (BTP) is investigating following reports of a punch-up between a group of up to 30 people on the 6.45pm train from New Street on Saturday.

The fight died down until the train got to Droitwich Spa, when the supporters again began to assault one another - using belts as weapons - before getting off the train at Worcester Foregate Street station.

The suspects - thought to be a mix of Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion fans - are all described as white and in their mid 30s.

PC Ben Smith from BTP said: “This was a totally unnecessary and mindless act of thuggery, which must have been shocking for the other passengers in the carriage to have witnessed. Those involved should be ashamed of themselves.

“We are committed to stamping out football-related violence on the rail network and we are doing all we can to identify the individuals concerned, including examining CCTV and making enquiries with local police forces.

“While our investigation is in its early stages, we are already in the process of speaking to some members of the public who were onboard at the time and we would encourage anyone else who saw what happened to contact us.”

It really saddens me Annis when a thread about violence get so many hits whereas posts about upcoming fixtures have a fraction of readers. You only started this topic this morning and already 700+ have read it.

I'm not criticising you Annis, because to be fair, you post on a wide range of issues. It's just a sad indictment of the approach many adopt to sport media.

Just glad it didn't involve the club.

You're right. Cardiff is far more family orientated these days. There's still room for passion though on the terraces. In today's game, players and managers come and go, but supporters remain (or at least the real ones do).

Yes I gave it a hit the same as you, but I read the majority of posts on the forum so I'm not distorting the relative 'popularity' of this thread.

I didn't criticise the post (as I clearly stated).

I merely made an observation and continued an amicable conversation with Annis, the OP. He doesn't seem to disagree with me.

At least my contribution was related to the post and not aimed at a contributor. Your contribution seemed to be telling me to pipe down. I will not!

This is a football forum and all I've done is to comment on the general state of play in football today. I certainly didn't criticise the club in any way, far from it.

You criticised the readers for giving this post so many hits as compared to a post about upcoming fixtures. Then you do the same by contributing.
That's hypocritical. People will read what they want and what interests them.
Sorry you're feeling so sad about it. It's real life ... Try getting one.

I didn't criticise the readers. I made an observation which was factually correct. There are many non-members who read this board so how can you imply I was criticising Cardiff fans?

I'm not hypocritical. I made a point about football. You made points about me.
I'm really glad that my activity interests you so much. It must mean that I have an interesting life (which I do, by the way).

Try making comments about football and maybe we can have a discussion.
