David Marshall's Rotherham red card will be appealed by Cardiff City after Bluebirds officials watched replays of the incident
Cardiff City have launched an appeal over David Marshall's controversial red-card at Rotherham on Saturday.
The Bluebirds captain was dismissed for kicking out at Millers striker Matt Derbyshire after the former Blackburn man had pulled on his shirt as he tried to clear the ball.
Once replays of the incident had been widely viewed, a groundswell of opinion among fans was that the Bluebirds should appeal the decision, made by referee Keith Hill.

Marco: "Why don't Cardiff City appeal the Marshall sending off as he was being pulled."
Mike Jenkins: "My view on the Marshall incident was that the club must appeal. The ref or linesman should've spotted the initial foul by Derbyshire and blown then."
With the Bluebirds facing losing their captain for a further three games, after he missed the start of the season through suspension, the BBC say they have decided to launch an appeal.

Cardiff City have decided to appeal over the red card shown to captain David Marshall in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United, according to reports.
The Scotland goalkeeper was dismissed towards the end of the first half for kicking out at Matt Derbyshire, an act that also earned the hosts a penalty.
According to BBC Sport, the Bluebirds will appeal the decision, with manager Russell Slade having no complaints about Marshall's dismissal, but claiming that a free kick should have been awarded prior to that.
Slade told reporters: "The first offence is a free kick to ourselves. It's a free kick on Marshall. How the referee can say he has not seen that is beyond me."
Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe scored the subsequent penalty to put the Millers ahead, before a Matthew Connolly own goal cancelled out Peter Whittingham's equaliser and gave the hosts all three points.

It doesn't make any difference if Matt Derbyshire made the first foul. Marshall did not ignore any provication but instead kicked out in retaliation. Very unlikely to get 3 match ban overturned.

I tend to disagree having watched the footage several times. My first reaction was a red card, but if you take into account his balance and centre of gravity, the leg movement isn't 100% voluntary in my opinion. I may well be wrong, but it's certainly worth a try.
Maybe some will get off his back then.

I totally agree. Appealing is a waste of cash IMO. Yes, he was fouled - he has to be cleverer than that though.
Take the ban and come back and make up for it.

Disagree. The ref admitted he didn't see the initial foul by Derbyshire, which he should've been booked for. In which case officials missed a crucial part of the incident as Marshall' s response was a reaction. I think we should win an appeal.

You can't retaliate regardless of what the referee did or didn't see.

Trouble is sometimes when an appeal is made and is unsuccessful the FA slap another game ban on top of the 3 for a red card.

I agree with PtB you simply can't be kicking out even if you are fouled. Waste of time as cant see us getting that ban overturned at all. Not like we are short on Keeper's either Moore is adequate to cover for a few games.
