Cardiff City debate: Nathan Blake says Russell Slade should try to sign his old pal Kevin Nolan - before Bolton do!
21/09/15
Cardiff City fans will hold a meeting on Monday to discuss falling crowd numbers and a lack of atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium, so just what are the solutions?
Nathan Blake, Steve Tucker and Gareth Rogers discuss the need for the Bluebirds to recreate the Ninian Park atmosphere, by giving the fans more freedom to stand and signing out-of-contract Premier League star Kevin Nolan, who was an apprentice with Blakey at Bolton.
With the midfielder reportedly in talks with their former club, Blakey said: "He was an apprentice when I was at Bolton but he's a top pro. He would make a good captain."
They also say David Marshall should not be vilified for his sending off and Russell Slade should consider a change of system against Charlton on Saturday.

I'm happy enough with our current midfielders.

I never had much faith in Nathan Blake as a person and he seriously underachieved as a player, in my opinion. But his journalistic contributions are worse and he comes across as a bitter and twisted person who now realises that he made a mess of things. If the team win the Championship and get promoted again, he will still find something to moan about.

I am happy with the set of midfielders we have, but Nolan is better than all of them (with the possible exception of the developing Ralls) and would be an excellent addition to the squad.

No brainer for me go get him

Totally. We haven't got a goalscoring midfielder like Nolan. I'd play him in Mason' s position with Ameobi up front. We'd be far more of an attacking threat.

He is a player that we have been crying out for , for years, he totally bosses the game even when playing below par, I would take him

It's a no brainer to bring in Nolan. Unfortunately, Slade has already been told he has enough midfielders and that will cost us like it did at Rotherham.

Would be a great signing. That and switch to 4-2-3-1 would be great.
--------Marshall
Peltier Manga Connolly Fabio
---- Dikgachoi Ralls
Pilkington Nolan Ameobi
----- Jones
Nolan was great feeding off a target man like Andy Caroll

As if slade would play that.
We have enough midfielders not being used

Are you serious? You wouldn't want to improve the team?
Manchester Utd, Man City and Chelsea can run away with the Premier league but what do they do the following summer? They always try to improve on what they've got.
You really are about the most simple person on here!

You've got to remember we are on a budget unlike the big teams you have mentioned and I think we have got a good midfield.

But that's not the point or what you said. Yes I believe we have a decent midfield and I also believe we have no chance of getting him but my point is you've always got to improve your team wether your a Prem team or or league two team.
That's why I mentioned the teams that win everything. Even they try to improve!!
You're saying we're good enough, everyone else can see if we get the chance to improve we should.
Come on ... Even you can see that!

Yes we can improve but Tan has closed his wallet so we can't.

Tan was supposed to be backing Slade financially over the summer - somewhere that changed and now he's said that there is no more money available despite all the money saved over the past few months.
Nobody wants the club to be splashing the cash left right and centre but if we were serious about a promotion challenge then money invested in a player like Kevin Nolan would be money well spent.

I am far from sure that he is any longer the "goalscoring midfielder" that he used to be . I think he only scored once for WHU last season despite playing in most of their games and was hardly prolific the season before.
He was a very good player , but his better days are now probably behind him and there must be less expensive , less risky , options out there to bring in instead.

Keith, you are correct IMHO
Sadly, some City fans get transfixed on 'names' and we know where that got us previously

Nolan would score lots in the Championship. Apparently Bolton are not going to sign him, probably due to wages. We need him and then a formation which gets the best out of him, that is 4-2-3-1.
