" RUSSELL SLADE BACKS REF DECISION "

Sky Bet

Sunday 20th September 2015

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has admitted captain David Marshall left the referee with no choice but to send him off in his team's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United.

Goalkeeper Marshall was dismissed after 42 minutes when he kicked out at Rotherham’s Matt Derbyshire inside the penalty area.

“I’ve watched the incident on video and it clearly should have been a Cardiff free-kick because their player (Derbyshire) pulled Marshall,” said Slade.

Yes have to agree def sending off but we should have had a free kick for the foul, where was the Linesman he should have seen that even if the ref didn't :ayatollah:

100% Not a penalty - and watching replays of the red card, IMO was harsh but then again nowadays you can't lash out like that, a few years ago he might of got away with it !

Ive watched the video of the incident with Matshall quite a few times now and I don't think he should have been sent off
Marshall did not aim a kick or a boot at Derbyshire
If you look at it closely you can see Marshall trying to pull himself away from him
As he finally gets away his arm goes up but if you look closely Marshall does not try to hit him
I think an appeal would be successful in this case
I would have booked Derbyshire and given us a free kick
They do except video evidence in appeals so Marshall will win his

It was a tight game before that as it has been in a few of our games this season.
We had strength on the bench to come on and would no doubt have got stronger .

Would we have won it, who knows ?

However IMHO we would have been favourites at 0 0 half time with 11 men.

Spot on and before Marshall had his moment of madness the only noise coming from the home crowd was frustration resulting on them getting on the players back. It got worse in the second half and but for a lucky deflection the home fans would be well unhappy at the huffing and puffing of thier team of 11 against our 10.

11 against 11 and I really believe we would have got at least a draw out of that game.

A lot believe we should have had the foul. In this case I believe the decision can be overturned.

A yellow card ?????? DM committed an act of "serious foul play" inside the penalty area, result red card and penalty. Ref got it spot on. You cant give a yellow card for serious foul play. Playground reaction from a Club Captain. :digging2: :bluebird:

Serious foul play is given when there is a danger of injury to an opponent.
Was Marshalls little flick likely to injure ?

The reason given, by the way, for the sending off was 'violent conduct' which is use of excess force or brutality.

Booking each imho

Guess its called violent because he kicked out? Its just terminology used! Never heared of attempted violent conduct being used?

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade accepts that goalkeeper David Marshall deserved to be sent off during his side's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham.

He said: "Should we have been down to 10 men? Yes. Should it have been a penalty? No. The first offence is a free-kick to ourselves. It's a free-kick on Marshall. How the referee can say that he has not seen that is beyond me.

The rules explain it as 'brutality or excessive force.'
Neither fits here, it was tepid.

There is an exception for raising your hands, but that's not the issue here.

People are saying its a def sending off without explaining why in terms of the Laws.
I've seen a lot of similar ones just result in a ticking off or booking at worst.

Anyone got a similar example which was a sending off ?
Only one I can think of was Beckhams and that was more obvious and wilder. Even then the press were split on it, some wanting him hung, some wanting the ref hung.

Slade is wrong. The club must appeal. The right decision would've been a booking for both players and a free kick to us, as Derbyshire' s foul was the initial one. Trouble is, neither ref nor assistants seem to spot what their striker did....that's why an appeal is essential.
