' Ameobi tonight '

Would you start ameobi before Jones tonight for a bit of rotation?

Can't see him dropping mason and I believe Jones is our best striker but no harm in a rotation for Tuesday games surely, plus ameobi has looked class imo.

Opinions?

Either could be super sub, Still frightened Ameobi can't last more than 30 mins.
Ameobi by far the better player though :thumbright:

Wrong Annis I'm afraid. Jones offers far more to our team than Ameobi. Jones will always be a threat to any defence and is difficult to stop. Ameobi is hot and cold and if he starts then teams will easily find a way to stop him. Best using Ameobi from the bench.

I would play them both and drop mason

I would start Ameobi and jones to try to get on the front foot from the start,I believe if we score first early on we will win comfortably :bluebird:

I agree with this but I also worry that Ameobi isn't even fit enough to get to 45-50 mins.

He plays in such a way that it would be difficult for him to conserve his energy (long, lung busting runs being his key weapon) and they would have to be confident that he'd at least get to the hour mark before he can be considered for a start.

I also agree that Ameobi and Jones are the best two strikers. Whether they are the best partnership is yet to be seen but it's certainly something that needs to be tried because it offers so much potential :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Hull will be expecting and preparing for Ameobi to come on for the last 30 mins.

In an attempt to confuse the b@stards, bring him on for last 15 mins of 1st half ( then have a rest at half time)...and let him play 15-20 mins of the 2nd half before subbing him (waste of a sub I know...but a pretty clever plan eh !)

I thought that Mason had an average sort of game on Saturday until Ameobi came on, when he seemed to wake up!

Ned, Thats what I like difference of opinions :thumbright:
I see Ameobi as pure class if he can play for more than 30mins, I see Jones as threat in the air and can make defences look all over the place, but his pace, shooting and going past players hmmm?

I don't think we need pace for the first hour or so of matches. We've got Ralls' brilliance in midfield, and Pilkington is a great player at this level when he's fit. Mason's movement is good.

The pace is much more useful in the last 20-30 minutes when defences are tiring and hope that's what Slade goes with tonight :ayatollah:

I agree with Worcester. I think Ameobi will be more effective in the final 30 minutes than at the start of the match. Hopefully he should be able to last more than half hour before too much longer.

Pace for 90 minutes is better than pace 30 minutes. Kenwynnes a striker who cant shoot, ameobi can shoot and has pace so for me we are a more dangerous side with ameobi playing instead of kenwynne, saturday proved that kenwynne wasnt a danger ameobi come on and changed the game, id rather him do that from the first whistle then if he tires take him off

At MK Dons, Ameobi started and was dreadful. I know some say it's 'only' the League Cup but that was his chance to impress and give Slade a selection headache. He just didn't cut it for me.

I think we're best off waiting for either Jones or Mason to get injured.

Can Ameobi keep up the sort of pace he showed against Wolves and Huddersfield (apparently, can't comment myself as I wasn't there on Saturday) for 90 minutes? I highly doubt it. Think he works better as an impact sub and, like I say, when the defence are tiring.

I hope, and would expect, Slad sticks with Jones tonight.

That's what I was thinking

Re: ' Ameobi tonight '

I think pace is one of the things we are missing at the moment, which can make defenders uncomfortable and lead to rash tackles etc.

He still needs to be used as an impact sub right now. :thumbright: :sladein: :ayatollah:

Ameobi had a good 15 mins then was blowing, at first i thought he was injured but his fitness is shocking, i would like to see him start but i dont think its an option atm. Dont want to waste a sub before half time :p

You are both right, a class player at our level but not ready to start yet, something is wrong because he does not look at all fit ???

How did Jones play tonight?
I remain unimpressed with his lack of speed, and lack of effort. He does score some goals and is handy when defending corners. But with him up front we lack pace and cannot get behind big tall defenders. They are less happy defending against pace. Why didnt we take off Jones and bring Amiobi on up the middle?
The salary paid for what we get from Jones was absolutely crazy.imho.

Jonsey was impressive tonight showed far more commitment than I've ever seen before!

I like Ameobi, but is it just me, as it looks like every time he goes on a run, he looks absolutely knackered afterwards?
