" Slade has won the respect and trust "

15/09/15

By Terry Phillips

Slade has won the respect and trust of his first team squad... :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Bluebirds players want to play for Slade. There is no question he has their respect. The most experienced men in City’s squad - Kenwyne Jones, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Matt Connolly, David Marshall and more - have bought into what Slade wants to do.

Watch the interaction between manager and players during matches. I’ve also seen it time and again in training sessions. They believe in what he is doing.

That respect wasn’t there last season when the club, on the football side, was unstable and badly in need of work. Now the uncertainty is gone. Players who weren’t prepared to buy in have gone. City’s squad is not the best in Championship football, but they have quality and, crucially, they are working together for the Bluebirds’ cause.

Players understand what Slade wants and what he is demanding from them in every game... :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Partnerships run through the team. There are occasional changes, but players understand what is expected and understand their responsibilities.

Morrison and Connolly, Malone and Ralls, Dikgacoi and Whittingham, Peltier and Pilkington, Mason and Jones, Marshall with his central defenders - all strong partners who will battle for each other. Everywhere you look there are trusted links and players who will back their teammates to the hilt. That trust runs from management and through the squad.

Slade is open and honest with his players - a crucial part of his job.

Well, well, well,I don't know who wrote this but its nice to get some balance on here.I sometimes think that its Slades personal demeanor and not his ability to do his job is the reason so many don't like him.I bet if I taught him a fist pump he would be more popular. You couldn't fix the problems at our club in 5mins and now most people are starting to realise this, also, how can anyone argue that Slade is clueless when he has the respect of his players, surely the players will always have a better idea than the fans.An overdue post on this board if ever there was one.

Great news if it is genuinely true. I really hope I am wrong about Slade. At this rate we might win the league. Ok. Maybe not but I'm optimistic especially if we can win most of our home games and get the crowd back.

Think you only have to look at the amount of players interviews all now saying the dressing room is a different place. You can see on the pitch too there is more desire for the badge!

A lot of us, myself included, had a go at Slade initially (some still do) but lets face it the squad he inherited wasnt the issue it was the moral and work ethic that he had to rebuild and credit where its due I think he is turning the corner. Im more than happy to give him my full backing now as its clear he is repairing the damage left from Ole and Malky.

Dare I say but :sladein:

Like a lot of people on here, I wasn't a supporter of Russell, particularly because I didn't know enough about him and secondly, some of the football we played after he came, was boring. I liked Malky and was sorry to see him go but considering what we now know what went on,the decision to get rid of him was probably correct. When I go to the game now,I feel very optimistic about us winning and how we will play. At Forest,I thought for a large part of the game we were excellent and thoroughly deserved to win. My only slight cynicism at the moment, is that I feel Russell needs to be a bit more imaginative in his substitutions,as he seems to do the same thing, nearly all the time. I hope Sammy is used more than an impact sub,but when he does come on,don't always take Kenwynne off, change it a little. Lastly,I normally with the theory of not changing a winning team but when some players are not playing that well, they need to be dropped and other players given a chance. It can't be very encouraging for those on the bench to see some not playing well and still be being picked regardless.

I was just so relieved that Ole had gone, I would have accepted practically anyone (except Toshack) instead. Saying this, I was not thrilled by Slade's appointment. But he has done O'K so far. Personally I would have gone for Justin Edinburgh and he is doing alright as well.

Linking Slade and Corbyn made me smile, typical bit of Phillips nonsense

A lot of people on here 'disliked' Slade from the off because he wasn't Malky, he wasn't a 'top' name and he was (apparently) Tan's choice!

Now, I have to say I never thought he would either galvanise or improve the squad of players we had, but I'll hold my hands up on that one and state that I appear to have been wrong!

I am pleasantly surprised at how the City are going about their business this season and promotion or not, if they continue with the effort and conviction that they currently are, there isn't a lot we can fault about either Russell Slade or his team!

Carry on Bluebirds; carry on Russell Slade! :ayatollah: :bluebird:

I think the fact we haven't made a raft of signings as helped slade as the team looks settled. The difference in the style of play so far has been the most pleasing which is largely down to breaking up last season's midfield I.m.o. keep the good work up city.

we've just had a really good start to the season and have had good results recently. its not rocket science, if we started poorly this board would be packed full of threads calling for slade to be sacked.

if we go on a poor run, people saying that they fully support slade will be calling for his head, thats football.
