Nicky Maynard offered deal

MK Dons have offered a contract to former Cardiff striker Nicky Maynard.

Maynard was released by the Bluebirds at the end of last season and spent some of the summer training with Nottingham Forest, who were unable to offer him a deal. The 28-year-old, who has played in the Premier League with West Ham, has been training with the Milton Keynes club for the past week and Dons boss Karl Robinson is keen to sign him. "We'd like to do a deal with Nicky Maynard," Robinson told the Milton Keynes Citizen. "It's now his decision - or his agent's decision. We've spoken to his agent, and we'll have to wait and see what comes back. "We spoke to him on Thursday, so hopefully we'll get a response today (Monday). Maybe he'll go and find something else instead. "But I really like Nicky as a person. (Former West Ham manager) Sam Allardyce spoke very highly of him. He'd be a nice one to bring in, but there are others I'd like to bring in too." Maynard came through the academy ranks at Crewe and his goalscoring exploits earned him a move to Bristol City in 2008. Four goal-laden years at Ashton Gate earned him a move to West Ham but it never really worked out for him in east London and he joined Cardiff in 2012. Maynard had a loan spell at Wigan last year before being released by the Welsh club.
