Cardiff City v Hull City

BY ANDY MILLS SEPTEMBER 14, 2015

Mitchell Whiley looks ahead and hopes Hull City can get their first league away win of the season.

Maximum points at home this season is just enough to keep Hull in the top six, after claiming only a single point from the three away fixtures. Up against Cardiff this weekend, City look to get their first win on the road with a tough trip to the Welsh capital.

An eleventh place finish last season halted any chance of an immediate bounce back to the Premier League, but currently Cardiff are sitting pretty in second place, two points above City. A slow start of three draws in three games has been backed up by three consecutive wins, the latest being a 2-0 victory over lowly Huddersfield. With star midfielder Craig Noone injured, the key threats for City will be Joe Mason and Peter Wittingham, who have three goals and three assists respectively. Another threat to Allan McGregor’s goal will be Sammy Ameobi, who has a goal and two assists to his name already this season. He also scored with a 35-yard strike when City went down to Newcastle 3-0 last season. In three league fixtures and a league cup tie at the Cardiff City Stadium, the Bluebirds are yet to concede a goal at home.

The recent injuries to Diomande and Maloney leave Steve Bruce to select from almost a full strength squad, with the obvious exception of Robert Snodgrass. Jake Livermore is also not expected to be back playing in the black and amber just yet. However, it is expected that there will be a change in the formation that started the Brighton match, as Bruce copped heavy criticism for his tactical formation selection. With Diame looking better as each week goes on, expect a big game from him.

Although City have had a poor start to the season in terms of away fixtures, they have notched up two wins in the past three visits to Cardiff, which included the most recent match between the two clubs where Huddlestone and Livermore netted once each and Jelavic bagged a brace in a 4-0 victory. However only six of the fourteen who took the field that day look set to return for the upcoming visit (McGregor, Davies, Elmohamady, Huddlestone, Meyler and Bruce).

With a W-D-L record of 22-20-19 over Cardiff, it’s difficult to make a prediction for this match based on history. However, with three or more scored in five of the last six meetings between the clubs, it is expected to be high scoring. After a poor away record last season, as well as the beginning of this one, City must be able to find something on the road if they are able to keep in touch with the top six.

Competition for places! Excellent.
Those not in the starting eleven can't moan when we are winning so they have to be patient and take their chance when it comes along ! :bluescarf:

The Tigers have no fresh injury worries following the weekend defeat at Brighton, meaning manager Steve Bruce will select from the same group of players when his squad make the journey to Cardiff City on Tuesday night.
