I know it is still early days, but as I was eating breakfast this morning, i was thinking about what we have done better so far this season. It's certainly not new signings, because we have barely spent a penny, and it's not renewed hope in the City support, because we are getting record low crowds and people said at the start of the season that we would do well to get mid table.
I think it is a culmination of a few things. I think we look a much fitter team, which I think is down to a hard summer from Slade, instead of the nicey nicey Ole approach. I also think that Slade and Trollope have installed confidence in players and are getting them to perform, when last season confidence was a real problem.
Scott Malone is a prime example. In the summer, I don't think many of us (including myself) would have been bothered if we had sold him for 100 k to further balance the books. But Slade showed faith in him and started him against Fulham and QPR and he played a stormer in both games, scoring a worldie along the way. He has produced solid performances since. And with Lee Peltier injured for the Hull game, Malone can return from illness as an adequate replacement.
Ralls, Fabio and Mason have also been men transformed.
I just feel happy supporting City again, the good vibes have started to come back. And I think a lot of credit must go to Slade, although I'm sure some will still find a way to criticise.
Back the bluebirds, roll on Hull!
