Sammy Ameobi has big Newcastle United FC future, says Cardiff City boss Russell Slade after match-winning cameo

BY TERRY PHILLIPS

Second half substitute Ameobi had a hand in both Bluebirds goals as he helped Cardiff make it three wins on the bounce

13/09/15

Russell Slade believes Cardiff City loan signing Sammy Ameobi has a future at Premier League level after his match-winning display against Huddersfield Town.

Second half substitute Ameobi had a hand in both Bluebirds goals, scored by Anthony Pilkington and Joe Mason, as they earned a third successive Championship victory.

Cardiff are second in the table and Slade said: “Sammy’s impact was excellent. He is getting stronger, fitter and had a hand in goals.

“He has a future at Newcastle and the top level.”

There were boos from home fans when centre-forward Kenwyne Jones made way for Ameobi, but Slade’s decision proved decisive.

“Kenwyne had done his job, but we needed to change the dynamics,” said Slade. “Sammy brings something different to the table.

“There were boos, but whether some fans thought I should have taken Joe Mason off I don’t know. Sammy made an impact, got us up the pitch and was a real threat.

“He has ability, pace, very good feet, he’s a good footballer and he sees things, sees a pass. I am delighted with what he is doing.

“Sammy is a good lad and he has fitted in. He wants to do well for our football club and I believe there is more to come from him, I really do.

“There are goals in him and we saw that when he scored against Wolves.” :ayatollah:

Was on a different level to every other player on the pitch and city have been crying out for a player who gets you off your seat and brings the unknown and that pace and quality, if we can get him fit he will tear defences in this division to shreds and could be a massive difference to where we Finnish

Agree with this. He needs much more game time due to his quality and the fact he needs to get match fit.

Haven't been hugely impressed so far, not to say he is bad but felt he was slightly over rated.

Completely changed the game yesterday. Needs to work on that fitness.

Would like to see him, Jones and Mason in the same team; with Sammy coming in from the wing.

Disagree, he's different level and been a real threat in his minutes in a city shirt

looks a quality player, but at the same time, he looks fit enough for only 30 min at the moment, never seen a player pant so much

It's tricky, someone with Soo much pace and trickery might be better used in the last 20 minutes when defenders are tired, and more prone to make mistakes and he can outrun them, or knock the ball behind the back line and run onto it, but the does look quality

Good player but was blowing out of his are after 15 mins definitely needs to get fit.

The question surely has to be why is he so unfit at this time of the season? A seasoned pro now, i just couldn't believe how knackered he was trying to get back from that one amazing run he had??

Agreed I've never seen a player struggle so much in a 30 minute game ????

Why the hell happened in Mewcastle if he's like that now and been here for ages???

One thing you can say positive about Slade is he likes to get the team fit, so fingers crossed if we are patient, we can have a hell of a player !!!!

He must remain a super stub for the next few months at least, he is going to have to build up match fitness slowly, if he started he would become a liability .......

Yes i agree to what a great player, great run from his own half but he does need to get fit, but when he does he will be on different level :bluescarf:
