A forum for all things Cardiff City

Today, two of my friends (who are lifelong Cardiff City fans) decided to watch Newport County, instead of Cardiff City. Initially, the 4 of us went over to watch them, as a) Cardiff City were rebranded, and we felt as if our club was no longer "our club", b) Newport is less than 15 miles away, so its a good source to watch League Football.
The issue we have now is that they both seem to go over there more than Cardiff games, even though you are paying the same amount on tickets, for a better standard of football, and Newport have only 1 point from 7 games.
Is it acceptable to follow them, as a Cardiff City fan? Whilst quite a lot of us wish "Naughty Newport" well, the majority of them dislike us, and they see us as the enemy. The history from the 80s and onwards hasnt been forgotten by them, and they are dying for the day that they draw us in the cup. There has been a lot of talk about the County fan who had his face cut up with a knife in Cardiff town, and the Cardiff City fan who was stripped naked at their own Somerton Park.
Thoughts on this? I am trying to make it clear to them, why it is unacceptable.

Ps- I hope they stay in the Football League, the Goldie Lookin Chain sounding scum.

Plus lets not forget that night in the FAW Premier Cup when they brought a huge mob to the old Ninian Park, trashed Sloper Road, and racial attacked that Asian cabbie.

People can do what they want but I do really understand why you would not go to city because of the rebrand but then support another club, surely that's more of a rebrand in wider terms.

At first it was fun. Very fun! New club, new surroundings. No attachment, so we could laugh at bad scores, players, funny fan reactions, because we didnt see ourselves as "Newport", just spectators or "tourists"/"groundhoppers". When Newport lose 4-0, we would find it hilarious, but would equally enjoy watching them win (or most of all, the hidings they gave Bristol Rovers in the derbies).

Don't suppose there's any harm going to watch them play the odd game if say cardiff are away or playing on different days. Personally I'd never go watch them

This happened! But, they still go. Even after one of them was punched in their pub "Riverside tavern".

It's your choice of course, but on a day when City had their lowest crowd for about 8 seasons it seems a shame that you chose to watch a team who's fans appear to hate us.
The rebrand is over and the team are doing well.
I find it bizarre that any City fan would choose not to watch City if they can afford it and can get to the ground.
Again though , your choice

Things are looking up so i suppose we'll see you soon.......

Showed them both this. I think they have realised the errors they have made.

I do find it odd to watch Newport when Cardiff are also at home. No excuses.

Have i heard this right a Cardiff fan chooses to watch Newport instead of turning up to support your team, ive got i feel sick reading this, this is why we have record low crowds cus people like you dont go!

If Cardiff City and Newport County are both at home on the same day, and you chose to go and watch Newport County, that makes you a Newport County fan.

What 'history' is this, then??
I don't remember County (or their fans) being a particular 'threat' to us and if I'm being honest, I used to go watch them occasionally when City were playing away and County were at their peak in the old 2nd Division (now Championship)
Some good players and a decent atmosphere, but never a realistic threat to Cardiff (as a club or to its fan)

Would not give those lot up the A48 the flem hanging from the side of my dogs mouth, let alone hand over my folding to watch them play. As others have said, your choice, though their fans detest us and would not think twice about slapping you if they knew you are from Cardiff. Though that is only when they are outnumber you and have a quick exit plan!!!
If you are going to see another team when home fixtures collide could I suggest Merthyr?

In fairness, they did turn up in FAW cup and yes Cardiff were told they were coming

"In fairness, they did turn up in FAW cup and yes Cardiff were told they were coming"
They had a few chaps in the Royal Oak on Newport Road and made enough noise so that the heddlu in Scotland could hear them the night of the FAW match!!! Many moons ago they turned up at Barry Island and slapped a few teenagers but when they were confronted with equal numbers they seem to follow the Jacks and have this habit of remembering that they have left the gas on and take off home. If they were as good as they are always professing then all they need to do is get on the x30, get off at the flyover, get on the city circle and hey presto they are in Canton/Grangetown within 10 minutes the next time we meet. They would rather attack individuals or small groups and then state that they "done" Cardiff. Wasn't someone who posts regularly on here, attacked with his missus by Cewnty? Feck em bunch of Jack/Scouse loving inbreds

They are arses over Newport Cewwwnty, but I have to say, we cant pretend they havent done Cardiff. I remember them giving myself and a few Barry Lads a slap during the Wales game away at Northern Ireland, and plenty of our so-called "hooligans" legged it. I dislike them, and laugh at how they always bang on about their hatred of Cardiff. They arent on Cardiff's level, but as a firm, ourselves of all people should know better than to act as if Newport are lile the Jacks.
Which is ironic because they chased the Jacks from the ground when they met in the FA Cup, something which is easy to find on YouTube. Dont fall for all that love in with the Jacks, it isnt true at all. Not when they chant "kill the Jack" at ex-Jack players... Which they also sing at our ex-players but insert "Bluebird".

Which actually made me realise that out of our loud mouths, the Valley Rams are the only ones who would do anything. I hate them lot over County, but nowhere near as much as the Jacks. Union flag waving c##ts.

I saw Newport play several times during the two and a half years I boycotted Cardiff City due to the rebrand. Mind you, I also watched Merthyr, Villa, Pompey quite a number of times too. Really enjoyed it too as it was great watching a bit of live football without feeling bothered either way about the result.
