' The new Cardiff City shirt that will cost you £699 to get your hands on '

12 SEPTEMBER 2015

BY TERRY PHILLIPS

The new strip, unveiled on Saturday morning, is not on general sale and is only available to supporters who 'sponsor' a player for the 2015/16 campaign

Cardiff City's new black and yellow third kit will cost fans an astonishing £699 to get hold of, we can reveal.

The new strip, unveiled on Saturday morning, is not on general sale and is only available to supporters who 'sponsor' a player for the 2015/16 campaign.

The decision to not release the kit to the public was taken by shirt manufacturers adidas as part of their policy to only produce two replica kits for Championship teams.

Fans who choose to sponsor a player will be presented with their shirt by that player at the end of the season.

The sponsorship option is also available for the new blue home shirt, priced at £699 (plus VAT), while the red away kit costs £399 (plus VAT). All three kits can be sponsored for a whopping £1,499.

The kit, modelled by Sean Morrison, will only be worn when clashes occur between Cardiff's blue home and red away kit and opposition clubs' home kits.

A club statement said: "Please note that this kit will only be worn when clashes occur between our blue home/red away kit and our opposition host club's home kit.

"The third kit will be worn this season only and is supplied for the first team squad alone. It is not available to purchase in retail outlets.

"The only way you can own one of these extremely rare shirts is by sponsoring a first-team player for the 2015/16 campaign. By doing so, you'll be presented with the shirt at the conclusion of the season by the respective player."

The club released new blue and red adidas kits at the start of the season.

It says that Adidas do not produce third kits for retail. Did you choose to ignore that bit.

Ipswich wore an orange shirt yesterday which wasn't for sale, I swear some fans think we're exclusive to all these things when we're no different to a handful of clubs?

It says Adidas do not produce retail kits for championship teams, or did you choose to ignore that bit?

For example

Thats because adidas dont feel they will sell enough 3rd kits to championship fans.
So the club whores out a different option to make money. Player sponsorship.

Like sponsoring a lion at chester zoo. Except the lions dont earn fifteen grand a week.

The 699 goes to Adidas?

The £699 goes to the club, you aren't buying the shirt, you're buying your business being in the match day programme next to the players which gives you coverage in that sense. The club probably treat the businesses who buy it with maximum respect, with the end of season dinner coming, they'll be able to pose for photos and etc with them. What don't people understand? This is normal? We have done this for many seasons, we have sold shirt sponsorships as normal. The only problem is that this season we cannot sell the third shirt as a shirt that fans can buy due to Adidas rules.
