My assessment on Slade so far

Sat Sep 12, 2015 3:56 pm

I said I would give it 6 games before casting a judgement on Slade. I was not a fan of his early on but I still believed he deserved a chance to prove himself after the summer. I think that was the least he was owed. I'll list the points below to make them as succinct as possible.

1) He has made us incredibly difficult to beat
2) The squad appears to be very organised
3) The brand of football isn't exciting but its effective
4) He has galvanised the squad to levels not seen since Malky Mackay left
5) We have picked up 12 from 18 so far - 66% of points - which is excellent considering the fixtures
6) He has not splashed silly money and has also brought in young players with potential - low risk with potential high reward
7) He has also done this with many people writing him off early on - credit where it is due
8) He has gotten rid of players who don't want to play for the shirt or club - i.e. deadwood

For me, I have to give him a 9/10 so far. He has been only slightly short of exceptional so far. So far he has impressed me in multiple areas greatly, even more so when I take a more objective look and realise this is a manager still realistically earning his stripes at this level as its a step up. He has proved my initial opinions wrong and long may it continue!

Consistency and organisation over big name gambles and wholesale changes. If it fails, it costs nothing, but building up a core, keeping our best players and good spirit means we have advantage over teams that are in a bit of a changeover period - clubs like Blackburn, Wolves, Forest have been affected by the transfer market otherwise could have been challenging for promotion, and then there's teams like Derby and Brentford who have had to adapt to new managers.

He has totally turned it around and good for him. I wanted him gone but was willing to give him this full season and so far so good. Lets hope we can keep it up.

He slowly but surely proving the doubters wrong. :thumbright: :sladein: :ayatollah:

I'm still in the "its too early" group.

Although I will say he is proving a few wrong. I would like to see how he handles a couple of defeats in a row. Will he be like DJ who just could not regain the consistency or will he be another Malky who could nip a possible bad run in the bud.

Re: My assessment on Slade so far

Far to early to judge, but it has been a good start.

Re: My assessment on Slade so far

Sat Sep 12, 2015 4:29 pm

Promising start but way to early to judge one way or the other. One thing I can guarantee is that if we are in the top 5 after around 25 games, we will get gates of around 18k to 20k at least.

We haven't lost a game in the league yet.

We are grinding wins out and at times playing some attractive football

Doing fine at the moment :sladein:

Barnett is unhinged mun, he's in the Roath camp of mentalists. I remember he changed his mind on the rebrand more than I changed my pants and was a premier league football scout just to name a few. Nutter.

We've only played 2 sides in the top 12 so far. You can't tell who's going to do well in this league and what may have looked a tough start on paper with hindsight wasn't so tough after all. Much hater games to come, starting on Tuesday. Great start though :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Spades brand of football is dull. First half today was excrutiating. Second half a bit better. I will not renew season ticket based on the football so far.. What would Slade need to do to get my backing? Resign! :sladeout:

Jesus Christ. Malkys brand of football was as terrible as you could get, were you one of the fans blinded by the fist pump as well?

I'm not a massive fan of Slade but football is a results business and Slade is getting results.

When you see the results on paper it's states we've won 3 on a bounce and drawn 3, underfeated and 2nd in the league.

Urm, Carl, the difference is you got carried away after 1 win. I'm happy with results after 6 games in. I said I'd give him 6 games. I'll judge him again after another 6 games and see how it pans out against the first 6. I think November will be the defining month. Slate me all you like but I've already held my hands up and said I was wrong.

Re: My assessment on Slade so far

Sat Sep 12, 2015 7:06 pm

6 points from 12 = 50% obtained
12 points from 18 = 66% obtained

Yes, my opinion has changed because Slade's points haul has improved. Considering we've now won the last 3 league games, I think that is a fair assessment.

True, but my point was that maybe the fixtures didnt warrant the concern. Would we have been so worried if we had Brighton, B'ham and Reading in our opening 6 fixtures? This league is so unpredictable you can't be sure what a tough or easy game will be. IMO though we will know a lot more about us after the Hull game who in theory will be the toughest test faced to date.

I stated previously that I did not think he was the manager to take us foreword
I have also stated that I will make judgement on him mid December
If we are still in the top six then I will be the first to admit that I could be wrong in my opinions
This is still early season and lot of things can change in the next couple of months
I would love to be proved wrong about him
At the moment though I'm enjoying our league position although it still don't seem right that Brighton are top
Let's all keep supporting the team and hope the momentum continues

I don't agree with your assessment of Slade Brian, I think we've had a great start and hopefully the standard of football will improve as we go along.
However, I do agree with your last statement. Some people are so blinkered that they can't have a balanced opinion. They are right in everything they say and anyone who disagrees are wrong. It's laughable.

Watched the first 5 games highlights on City Player. Will watch this one when I can. After all, my assessment is based on results. This is a results business and thats what I care about. I don't care about losing 4-3 whilst playing fancy football. Only results matter as results are what take you up. If we have to go up the more boring Malky way then so be it. And no, I don't go to games. I live on the other side of Europe so it'd cost me a few hundred quid each time to attend a game and whilst I do enjoy football, I don't enjoy it to the extent that I will put myself a few hundred quid out of pocket to watch a game.
