Manga Has To Earn His Shirt Back

12/09/15

Football League

Ahead of the game against Huddersfield Town this weekend, manager Russell Slade has said that Bruno Ecuele-Manga needs to earn his shirt back given the form of centre half pairing Sean Morrison and Matthew Connolly so far this campaign.

In quotes carried by Wales Online Slade explained that it was only fair to keep Morrison and Connolly as the first choice picks, because the team has be in on merit.

27 year old Manga picked up his knee injury in pre season but he is now back fully fit and ready to go, featuring as a late substitute in the recent match against Wolverhampton Wanderers and building on that then with a start in the Capital One Cup loss to MK Dons, but for Forest he found himself as an unused substitute once more.

'I don`t think anybody is an absolute automatic choice. They have to earn the shirt that might be old and traditional, but that`s the way I think it should be. If you are performing in the moment to a high standard then you deserve the shirt. Look at my bench, there are players who will have to work hard, be patient and wait for their opportunity to get in the side. Over the last couple of games I would say sticking with Morrison and Connolly would only be fair.'

With the disruptions Manga had whilst on international duty that involved a delayed flight as well as a power cut interrupted game, he'll no doubt be hoping for another opportunity to press his own claim even if it comes from the bench.

In his pre game interview, Slade also confirmed that Federico Macheda was now likely out for the next ten weeks as he has undergone back surgery.

The 24 year old had picked up a disc problem, but the procedure went well and hopefully he'll be back in action and able to really get himself going at the club when he returns to fitness as a return of eight goals from 25 appearances last term wasn't what anybody had hoped for from the former Manchester United man.

'The operation went well which is naturally very pleasing. He`s working very hard to get back to fitness now, but, of course, this is a set-back for him. It`s done now and he will be working to get back sooner rather than later. Right now we believe he is looking at eight to ten weeks before he is ready again.'

If Manga was similar level to his team-mates, then that rules applies, 'don't mess with the team dynamic etc.' However, that rule does not apply to Manga who is the top defender at the club

have to say, I strongly disagree with Slade's reasoning for leaving the most talented defender benched!

Don't you agree, that due to the long term injury to Macheda,it was absolutely lunacy to let Doyle go out on loan, has Slade negotiated a deal where we can bring back Doyle if we get injury problems?

Such a stupid thing for Slade to say.

Manga is head and shoulders our best player, he is the best CB in the Championship.

He walks back in the team all day.
