The former Manchester United frontman has played less than 10 minutes of first-team football this season.

Russell Slade
He said: "The operation went well which is naturally very pleasing. He's working very hard to get back to fitness now, but, of course, this is a set-back for him.
"It's done now and he will be working to get back sooner rather than later. Right now we believe he is looking at eight to ten weeks before he is ready again."
Macheda has scored eight goals in 26 appearances since joining the Bluebirds on a free transfer last summer.

HITC Sport understands Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda faces up to three months on the sidelines with a back injury.
Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda has been forced to undergo back surgery which will rule him out of action for several months, HITC Sport understands.
Macheda has been struggling with the back injury in recent weeks, and has yet to feature for Championship side Cardiff this season as a result.
After undergoing tests on the ailment, the club decided to send him for surgery to try and resolve the problem.
Italian forward Macheda underwent successful surgery on his back this week and his recovery could take as long as three months, but the player is hoping to return to action before then.

Not the most committed of players but he knows where the net is, composed finisher and makes goals on his own

Shame but didn't think he'd play much anyway.

I think this will push Ameobi up front. Jones obviously the starter and then we have Revell/Ameobi as our other big men since Macheda is out.

When I saw "Star", Macheda was the last name I would have connected with that particular term. I do occasionally agree with Annis. Not very often I admit. But in this case I think it proves that basically we watch a different game.

All I can say to that Annis is that "his day" must be 29th February , because it doesn`t happen very often.

Lazy and disinterested but without doubt can put the ball in the net very cooly and would thrive in this seasons team
