Cardiff City signing Idriss Saadi

11/09/15

Football 24/7

Cardiff City fans might have a bit of a wait to see new striker, Idriss Saadi, unleashed in the Championship it has emerged.

The 23-year-old hitman was signed by the Bluebirds for ‘small fee’ from French club Clermont just before the transfer window closed at the start of this month.

Saadi had impressed in France, but is recovering from cruciate ligament damage. Slade said exhaustive medical checks had been carried out on the frontman’s fitness ahead of the move, but now admits it could be weeks before Saadi is actually out on the pitch at all.

“Idriss is still one-on-one with the medical team and the fitness coach,” said Slade.

“We are following our protocol which is more stringent than the French protocol. When you get the type of injury, he has had and the surgery that has gone on, you need that. But he is making really good progress and we expect him out on the grass in the next couple of weeks.”

Why are we signing injured players? :o

Doubt we'll see this guy on the pitch for months by the sounds of it.

David, I have to agree and most of Slades signings are not doing well. Slade is doing well with the players that were already at our club.
Our bes performances and wins this season have come with Slade only playing 1 of his 11 or 12 signings he's made s fa.

Exactly right Annis.

I don't know why Slade has signed half of the players he has if his job has been to cut down the size of the squad!

All he has done is sign cheaper players most of whom he's unwilling to play - very strange.

Still, at the moment it seems to be working ok but, as you say, that is mainly due to the players who were here before he arrived.

As I mentioned to you it's a big gamble to sign a player with this injury to see if he can become the same player. Thought we might have learned our lesson signing players who are injured look how long it took us to see Dikgacoi. Only time will tell.

If you wanted proof of Slade's incompetence this is it, he signs a injured striker then loans out Doyle

I'm not impressed with Slades signings over all, but to be fair to him he has got the old squad players playing well :ayatollah:
Always said the squad was quality that he inherited :ayatollah:

To be fair Turner was injured when we signed him with an ACL

Not played yet being written off. Alex Song signed for West Ham with an injury but will their manager be getting criticism off their fans?

You wouldn't sign a player if they were injured and risk losing him to another club? We're being cautious and blending him in when he's ready. We have Macheda, Jones, Mason, Ameobi and Revell here. I'd hope if we pick up a striker crisis that we'd dip into the developmental/academy team to give a young striker a chance whilst Idriss gains fitness. It's always criticise before praise from City fans

Not sure what exactly there is to praise about signing a young man with a very serious injury who may take some time to recover and may not be the same player as he was before the injury which happens quite frequently.

If you think that Slade would even consider "dipping into the development/academy team to give a young striker a chance" then you might be waiting a very long time. Slade has shown no confidence in development or academy players at all since he arrived at the club and has shown nothing to suggest that policy will change any time soon.

Sometimes criticism of the club is justified - not everything is sweetness and light all the time.

Re: ' Cardiff City Striker Injured '

I agree - on the whole almost all of his signings have been of a poor standard or worse than players we already had.

Re: ' Cardiff City Striker Injured '

Fri Sep 11, 2015 3:15 pm

Kennedy was excellent last season. McAleny a very good loan signing. Malone has improved greatly this season and Doyle hadn't had a chance at all till he was moved on. Ameobi is full of potential. I'm not a big fan of Slade, but not all his signings have been crap.

I assume we'll give him as much time as cornelius. He isnt fit, cornelius was coming off an actual bad injury.

1 start, a few sub appearances totalling about 60 minutes.

Then sell him if he doesn't do much.

If you want some percpective on tans attempt to make out mackay wasted money on him by selling quickly.

People getting on his back before he has even kicked a ball! Players are bought to do a job for a long period of time, not a few weeks!

Spot on mate fans critisising this is pathetice.
Manga was exactly the same just returning from a long term knee injury and then he goes and wins player of the season for us!
The same whinging people would be going mental at slade if we played saadi too early and he got injured because of this.

Sensible approach by the club, taking a gamble on a player who could turn out to be class because hes got the ability and potentiol, oh wait maybe we should have threw money away on a league 1 player to moan about or a premier league money grabber with no hunger or passion on high wages so we can all moan about the wages hes on....

I haven't read or heard of anyone writing him off so it seems you've just made that up. All people have been doing is saying why sign somebody who has a serious injury. That's not writing the guy off as a player it's questioning Slade and wondering when the player will be fit.

Annis what do you expect when we had one of the most expensive squads in the league, we all new it was full of top players. Slade has had to bring in a handful of players on a shoestring to add to the squad where we've stripped down and supply back up etc. What he's done is shaped a solid squad and got them playing, there all his players now regardless of who bought them!

You mean had not has ffs
Now he needs bringing up to fitness
Just like Jones needed when he came back this season later than most due to playing for his country
It's just another knock slade and the club at all costs ffs :sladein: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Re: ' Cardiff City Striker Injured '

Would have cost more if he was fit. We are not desperate for a striker, if Slade has other options lined up, and he is a raw talent we've taken a gamble on. If he comes good and ends up banging them in and we sell him on for £5-10m you'll all be creaming your knickers about it. The reactionist nonsense on this board is boring. Give it time, lets see how things plan out.

Doyle wasn't even getting into our match day squad and was unhappy about not playing. Offloading Doyle (and others) has given Slade the finance to bring Saadi in.

The only proof of incompetence here is the fact you fail to realise we have Jones, Mason, Revell, and Ameobi currently fit and able to play up front. That's more than enough cover to keep us going until Saadi gets fit.

Or would you have preferred for us not to sign Saadi, keep an unhappy Doyle who's well down the pecking order and then risk missing out on Saadi in January?
