What Ralls offers
By Scott Johnson
We'd 9th Sept 2015
Ralls lifts the tempo of a rather sluggish side and is full of youthful exuberance. Currently stationed on the left, he quickly forged an impressive partnership with left-back Scott Malone.
His positional discipline may be good for the shape of the team, but he does not have the necessary pace or trickery and his long-term future looks set to be playing through the middle.
In that respect, Ralls is the new Joe Ledley, a player he bears a striking resemblance to in the way that he moves and operates, rather than the new Whittingham.
A midfield of Noone, Ralls, Dikgacoi and Pilkington looks very exciting, but even if this does eventually become Cardiff’s first-choice midfield, Whittingham, who leads by example, should not be banished indefinitely as he still has a very important part to play, on and off the pitch.
Cardiff is an all-or-nothing club and that is mirrored by the team. You are either in the first-team picture or you are very much on the outside looking in.

To be fair and im not knocking ledley i think that ralls is a lot more skillful on the ball. Better passer and comfortable with more time as well

Yeah I think there's more about his game than Ledley had as long as Ralls keeps progressing he'll become a better player in my opinion.
Ledley, water carrier.

I'll be a man and admit that Joe Ralls has proved me wrong this season.
Last year, I was tough on him. I didn't think he was good enough to start for us, and didn't feel he should be anywhere near our first team. Fact is, he made a lot of costly errors, was too easy to knock off the ball, and generally just made us weaker when he played. I really couldn't get aboard the Joe Ralls Hype Train.
That said, he's been superb this season. We are only a few games in, and things can always change for the worse, but so far he has offered us composure, strength, consistency and creativity. His partnership with Malone has been key to our success, despite Ralls perhaps being played out of position.
I don't know the stats, but he really does look like he has bulked up over the summer too. He seems stronger physically, and just generally a lot more confident. Like a new signing for me.

I kept on last season for Ralls to be a regular starter in the middle. I really didn;t get Slade playing him out wide.
However after seeing him in the last 2 games I feel differently and can see the positives of him being out wide.
He adds protection to the full back and slots comfortably into centre mid when needed, which helps bolster the middle of the park and helps Whits and Dergashwee. Also he seems to have improved going forward, ok he's not a natural pacey winger like Ameobi, but he still has a fair bit of skill and good shot and cross.

I remember saying last season on these boards that Joe was better than Gunnars and getting stick!
