PLEASE " STAY OFF THE PITCH "

Welsh football bosses have warned fans they could jeopardise Wales' qualification party if they let their emotions spill onto the pitch

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=162426 :thumbright:

And they could even risk a place in next summer's Euro 2016 finals – for the team and themselves.

Supporters are counting down to kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium where a sell-out crowd hope to see one of the greatest nights in the history of the national team.

But while FA of Wales chiefs want long-suffering supporters to revel in the prospect of booking a place in a major finals for the first time in more than half a century, they admit there could be concerns if victory over Israel sparks a pitch invasion.

The FAW were fined and warned by Uefa when a smattering of travelling fans rushed onto the pitch a year ago as Gareth Bale scored a late winner against Andorra.

And European football's governing body can impose a range of punishments for the offence, from further fines, playing games behind closed doors - and even points deduction.

Such a worst-case scenario could see Wales sweating over disciplinary action, and FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford says: “Uefa do look upon these things quite poorly and we know there can be penalties if such things happen.

“There is a range of disciplinary procedures and ultimately they do have the ability to take points away from teams or order games to be played behind closed doors.

“It goes without saying we do not want that to happen and potentially spoil what could be a great night.

“We want every single person at the stadium and across the country to enjoy the occasion and hopefully celebrate what could be a fantastic day in Welsh football but all should remember to do it in the right spirit.”

Pitch invasions have long been something of a celebration tradition in British and Welsh sport but under Uefa's rules, Article 16 states “host associations are responsible for order and security both inside and around the stadium before, during and after matches. They are liable for incidents of any kind and may be subject to disciplinary measures and directives.... and are liable for the following inappropriate behaviour on the part of their supporters.”

That includes “the invasion or attempted invasion of the field of play”.

While a points deduction would be extreme, Ford added: “It would be a terrible shame if something like that happened and, come the Andorra game, we couldn't give the team the sold out celebration the team deserves.”

And with police also able to place football banning orders of fans, he went on: “There were some who came onto the pitch against Andorra who had banning orders and they need to remember that.

“Hopefully we can have the chance to celebrate what we have all wanted but it would be a shame for anyone if they found themselves unable to go to France because of that and not only could they get the FAW in trouble with Uefa but they won't be able to go to the Euros.”

When will people realise. You are not allowed to run on the pitch. Ever. Is there something complicated in that sentence which makes it difficult to understand? Then people moan because they get football banning orders after doing something they have been told not to do.

It wouldn't surprise me if uefa punished us if there was a pitch invasion they are really strict on it they are not as lenient as the fa, stay off the pitch and celebrate in the stands don't jeopardise it with something like this.

If we win tomorrow and fans run on the pitch, there is a HUGE chance of a points deduction. This is UEFA we're talking about, not the FA. They're pretty damn strict.

I hope that the stewards are on the ball tomorrow, in case any protestors get on the pitch. They won't care about the football, just to make a political point. In fact, they would probably love it if Wales got punished.

Hopefully none will get anywhere near the ground, never mind onto the pitch. Best be aware, though.

I would happily take a decent amount of police presence around the pitch towards the end of the game tomorrow if that's the only way to guarantee no fans on the pitch! Why give UEFA a reason to think about deducting us points?

It will need to be announced then at today's game that all fans must stay of the pitch as there are some that will just assignment that it is ok. Perhaps state it on the TV screens and verbally announce. If no announcement happens, then it is quite possible that people will run on!

Didn't Wales get fined once this campaign for fans on the pitch in Andorra? If so, if it happens again it could mean points. Stay off!! :old:

Yes we did get in trouble for Andorra. Hope the numbskulls stay away. Proper football fans won't even think of invading the pitch. I hope there is an announcement before the game to be honest.

Fingers crossed.
