' Why Kenwyne Jones Stayed '

Kenyne Jones nearly 31 yrs old.

Current contract runs out July 2016 at approx £37,500 basic.

It is believed City have put a new contract to him at 2-3 years, much lower wages, but bigger bonuses.

Jones expected to sign :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

That's good business and a great incentive for Kenwyne, Annis

I think if we can get 1 or 2 loan players in from a premier league club during the loan window I really think we could have a good season. Kept all our top players and jettisoned some of the deadwood we have the makings of a really good strong squad.

I agree Chris. Players like Kenwyne need a sort of performance related pay to get the very best out of him :laughing6:

Performance related pay is perfect for Jones, he has so much to offer, but needs motivation, what better motivation than money :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Annis do you have any idea roughly how much wages the club have offered to kenwyne? also are the bonuses things like goals scored and promotion bonuses ?

I will be really pleased if the club are able to work out a contract like you have mentioned with kenwyne as he is a real quality striker in the championship just his wages are for the premier league, that's the only reason I would have wanted Kenwyne to go as his wages are simply just to much for a 2nd division club.

Lets hope he agrees with the terms and signs for us again, I think he will, he comes across as a very laid back guy.

This was the best solution we could've hoped for, I would've been happy for him to go before the season started but he's reminded me how good he is at this level these last couple games :ayatollah:

From the club's perspective it is a step in the right direction ... after all, anything that can reduce one player's ridiculous wages (for the Championship at least!) has to be seen as a good move.
However, my concern is that by paying him 20k a week as you suggest, he would take almost a 50% pay drop ... how will he react to that piece of news I wonder?
Now, it could be argued that a goals/promotion bonus will act as a great incentive to him, but will KJ genuinely believe promotion is realistic? If any of the Cardiff City message boards are anything to go by, you'll see that the strong opinion is we are a mid-table team, with perhaps an outside chance of making the play-offs - why would KJ think any differently?

I just hope his head doesn't drop - I'm uncertain that he's the type of person who can react to a carrot being dangled in front of him.
On the subject of bonuses: I've never understood the concept of promtion bonuses ... I mean, isn't it the whole idea that you try to go out and win your games anyway?
With regards to a striker's goal bonuses ... it can sometime create a suspicion that the player starts playing for himself instead of laying that pass off for his partner he's more inclined to be a bit greedy and have a go himself. It certainly opens itself to accusations anyway.

One thing you are missing is his contract moves from 1 year to 2 or 3; forget the weekly amounts, these players don't need to worry about what's coming in weekly or monthly, they look at the total payable over the length of the contract, which if this story turns out to be accurate will have increased not decreased.

Additionally it guarantees him playing at a decent wage until he is 33 or 34 - not many big strikers get decent money past 30.

As for bonuses - it's the same as a salesman's pay, a lot is incentivised to produce the right behaviour for the benefit of both the employer (CCFC) and the employee (KJ).

Defo see where your coming from but what he has to way up at 31 is will he get say £20k a week anywhere else, probably would still has a bit to offer but also the important point is the longevity of his contract if we are offering a 3 year extension that will probably see him to retirement, add to that bonuses for each game played and every goal and it's a decent contract for a 31yr old striker at this level

He will probably have a signing on fee as well even tho it's not a new club most players get a small bonus for commuting long term

Hopefully basic weekly is even less than £20k but can't see him taking less than that

He could risk it leave on a free end of season and get a decent one year deal somewhere else but then at 32 he's not getting a 2/3 year deal anywhere else it'll be another 1 year deal or pay as you play so realistically I'd so our offer if close to what Annie suggests is a very good deal for him

Glad he's staying. He gets goals at the end of the day.
