Marshall wants a return to the Premier League.

Cardiff City's David Marshall maintains his desire for Premier League return despite West Brom transfer collapse.

The Bluebirds stopper was close to a move to the Hawthorns this summer but it fell through as the Baggies turned to Anders Lindegaard.

As the closing of the transfer window looms Cardiff City skipper David Marshall has cast doubts over his Bluebirds’ future, admitting he wants a return to the Premier League.

The goalkeeper had been linked with a move to West Brom all summer, but the Baggies failed to meet Cardiff’s £5m valuation for the 30-year-old and have now signed Anders Lindegaard from Manchester United on a two-year deal.

It rules out a move for Marshall it would seem, but the shot-stopper, who is now away with Scotland preparing for a Euro 2016 qualifier in Georgia on Friday, admits a return to the top-flight is what he wants,

“It would be fantastic to play at the highest possible level,” said Marshall.

“Everyone wants to play in the Premier League and in European competition as well.
“But players just have to get on with it, they get the contracts and they have to do the best of their ability, which they do every week

“But, until something comes when it’s up to me to make a decision, I’ll just keep my head down and work hard.”

Marshall, who was the Bluebirds stand out performer during their season in the Premier League, was suspended for this season’s first three matches, but was straight away reinstalled in the Cardiff side by boss Russell Slade and has helped the Bluebirds to an unbeaten start in the Championship.

Despite the speculation linking him with a move to West Brom Marshall, who joined the Bluebirds from Norwich in 2009 for £500,000, insists the situation has never distracted him from his job in the Welsh capital.

He revealed things had not really moved far enough along between the two clubs for him to actually need to a make a decision about his Cardiff future.

“It’s not an ideal scenario. I think the transfer window should be done before the first game kicks off,” added Marshall.

“It’s not ideal playing three or four league games when it’s constantly being talked about and bids coming in.”

“It’s not something the manager [Russell Slade] has ever had to mention. It’s never come to a stage when the club has come to me to go for a medical.

“Obviously, if someone makes a bid, it has to go to the club and the clubs have to agree a fee before it comes to me and that’s never happened.”

You can't blame Marshall for wanting the premiership

He has been a great servant to the club

That article has the mark of Tucker all over it and typical of a lazy journalist who can't find anything else to write about. To say that David Marshall has cast doubts on his Cardiff future is in my opinion bollocks. All DM has said is that he will concentrate on doing the job Cardiff City pay him to do, honour his contract and only think about a move when the club tell him they have accepted an offer for him. What player when asked wouldn't say they want to play at the highest possible level, so how does that come close to casting doubts over his Cardiff future. Only on planet Tucker.

Throughout this summer WBA have been trying to tie up a deal for DM but they have failed to meet the valuation put on him by our club, to his great credit DM has stayed focused and put in performances like he did on Saturday. Another club may come in for DM before the window closes this evening and if the club accepts the offer then the decision will, as he says, be his.

Until then Tucker should shut up or write articles about how professional DM has been throughout this saga.

You are correct in your post above, fella

Marshall has never said he 'wants' to leave, but he is ambitious and would like to have another go in the Premier League; preferably with Cardiff City FC

Tucker certainly appears to possess lazy, self-indulgent and fantasist journalistic tendencies

Marshall shall get what he wants when we are promoted to the Premier at the end of the 2015-16 season.
