HITC Sport understands Preston North End are closing in on the loan signing of Cardiff City striker Eoin Doyle.

Cardiff boss Russell Slade is happy to loan out Doyle as he does not figure in his current plans, with Kenwyne Jones and Joe Mason ahead of him in the pecking order.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Doyle, but Preston are at the front of the queue to sign the 27-year-old.

Preston boss Simon Grayson is desperate to bring in a new striker before the close of the transfer window, with Jermaine Beckford facing a spell on the sidelines through injury.

EOIN DOYLE is in line to make a shock move to Preston for £850,000.

Doyle, 27, joined Cardiff City from Chesterfield for the same fee in February after netting 25 times for the Spireites in 33 games last term.

He had previously moved on free transfers four times, from Shamrock Rovers to Sligo Rovers and onto Hibernian and Chesterfield.

The Tallaght man scored a respectable five goals in 11 starts and five substitute appearances for the Bluebirds to end the season with 30 goals.

But he has not featured in any of their five league games to date with his only outings coming in the League Cup.

And the Welsh outfit are now expected to recoup their money by selling him to Championship rivals Preston.

Newly-promoted Preston have scored just twice in the league with boss Simon Grayson believing Doyle can give them more of a cutting edge.

Eoin Doyle in line to leave Cardiff for Preston for £850k 6 months after he joined for same fee.

Preston North End are lining up a bid to sign Cardiff City striker Eoin Doyle on a season-long loan.

Good business although obviously selling to a rival club is risky.

Good luck Doyle!

:bluebird: I would have liked Doyle to have been a success here after living in Tallaght myself for several years and still having lots of friends there, but now with KJ unlikely to be moved on perhaps we should get a fee unlike ALF. I will be glad to say next time I`m visiting Dublin I can say we were a springboard for him to prove his worth at Championship level by taking a punt on him at wrong side of 25. He is a poacher and if PNE set them selves to produce chances for him I do believe he can succeed and score a lot of goals. If we wipe our nose transfer wise good business Slade if you read this put a clause in for a ROI cap . We`re playing well without him so if this story is true happy days, hope Kennedy doesn`t leave under similar circumstance's. August was good anyway
