Good news on Kenwyne Jones

Kenwyne Jones is in talks with the club over extending his contract.

The striker is happy at the club and wants to extend his stay beyond this season.

The club want to keep hold of their best players and Jones is certainly in that bracket.

Hopefully there can be an agreement reached.

Carl, you seem to be the messenger of good news at the moment.

Hopefully on a reduced wage he's a really good player but hopefully he will take a paycut with promotion bonus in his contract

Has Tan had a slight change of heart after a good start to the season? It seems to me that whilst he's not splashing the cash he realises we have a half decent chance of the play offs and if we can somehow go up he can recoup his losses a lot more easily than if we end up mid table in championship.

If he's on the reported wages he is, then I would hope his wages in terms of a renewed contract would be linked to our championship status rather than premier league wages.

Yes he is a very good player at this level but he demonstrated it on an inconsistent basis last season and didn't really justify his reported wages. He's started the season very well, let's hope If he does agree a new contract, he continues it for the rest of the season.

If he lowers his salary then great.

Jones also started last season very well until the transfer window closed, then when he didn't secure his big money move away, he went to his old, lazy self and his performances declined. Hopefully, that won't happen this season. We need to offer Jones a much lesser wage but with generous win bonuses, goal bonuses, man of the match bonuses and promotion bonuses. That will ensure he gives 100% every game then and he will really be a benefit to us this season.

Any contracts given now with any players should be bonus based
base wage and if promotion achieved goals scored bonus etc
