' RUSSELL SLADE ' " WE CAN STILL GET BETTER "

“We can still be better"

“It was a good away performance,” began the City boss. “I thought we had periods of real dominance and control and we looked a real threat. We got the goal just before the break, which was important, and it was a great header by Kenwyne too.

“In the second half we got our second goal at just the right time as well, in all honesty. That made it very difficult for Forest to get back in it.

“Overall, I thought that we stood up to the challenge and made good choices in terms of our movement and our passing.”

The win saw the Bluebirds go into the international break unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship, earning nine points from a testing opening month of fixtures.

Nevertheless, Slade still had some words of advice for his side, adding: “We can still be better as we were a little bit sloppy from time to time. But I think we’re making progress which is the important thing.

“I thought that Forest got a bit direct, trying to get back into the game in the last ten minutes. That was probably where they caused us most problems. Peltier at the back made a few important headers and Marshall made two or three really great saves as well.

“However, we stood firm and we were together. That was vital, as we’ve got a certain momentum at the minute and it’s important to keep that going.”

Both Joe Mason and Kenwyne Jones doubled their tallies for the season with a goal apiece at the City Ground. Slade finished by singling out his striking partnership for praise after another impressive showing.

“It’s really pleasing that Kenwyne has scored again and it was a great header from him,” said the Manager. “Mason is lively in that box too, and very clever – although he wasn’t so clever with the one he missed at the end!

“However, I’m really pleased with Joe – he’s a great player and he works his socks off for the team as well.”

I believe we can still get better. We still need to improve defensively.

It's a shame that we have a break now as were just getting nice momentum going. Hopefully the players that go away come back fit and we have added to squad in transfer window and not sold Jones or Marshall.

I only just watched the highlights, as I was at Silverstone for the Moto GP all weekend (superb wins for Valentino Rossi in the main Moto GP race and for Brit Danny Kent in Moto 3) and was back late last night

It seems that Russell Slade is starting to get a 'team' at Cardiff City FC and (for now at least) it is time for attending supporters to get behind the guy and what he is trying to achieve with a limited budget

Keeping Marshall and Jones (great header for the first goal) is a pretty good indictment of how the squad feel about Slade and Trollope because I am sure if I was unhappy with my job, I would move heaven and earth to force a move to another; particularly if it meant I was on more money and at a higher level!

Good interview from Slade and I agree that we appear to suffer when other teams go the 'direct' route, as City currently sit back too deeply and try to absorb pressure; often resulting in late goals (a la Forest and MK Dons over the last week)

Noticed Forever Blue, Carlos and their group smartly positioned themselves smack bang centre stage for the cameras after Mason's goal. Smart move, as they can now advertise themselves "As seen on TV" LOL :laughing6: :laughing6:

The squad are doing well and it must surely be a big confidence builder. Now all they've got to do is iron out any mistakes in their game and then they will be a definite promotion contender. :bluescarf:

Wait to see how they respond to a couple of defeats in a row or one or two hickups before coming out with a statement like that.
