' CONFIDENCE AND BELIEF '
Confidence is key.
I wrote on here recently that the performances have improved and in turn results are getting better, after the five games we have come through unbeaten, I believe that the confidence and belief that comes from that is critical to our season.
Even though I am positive with the results, I still have this underlying fear that City's team look a little shaky under pressure and don't kill teams off when we have the chances.
At QPR and Blackburn this was evident, the same can be said for the cup game at MK Dons too.
Yesterday, we had a glorious chance to kill the game and failed to do so and thanks to David Marshall we held on to the 3 points.
The international break has come at exactly the right time in my opinion, unbeaten in the league and allow niggling injuries and not quite fully fit players to recover but also for the squad to look at what they achieved and build on it.
Russell Slade must be delighted with Kenwyne Jones and Joe Mason both getting on the scoresheet yesterday and last week versus Wolves, Kenwyne grabbing his first of the season on his first start and his replacement Sammy Ameobi grabbing his first also coming off the bench.
The first eleven must surely look at the bench and recognise the strength we have in depth, when all are fit, Manga, Noone, Ameobi, Malone/Fabio.
The two benches yesterday showed the difficulties of being under a transfer embargo and the difference of having quality.
City's squad must start to believe that they are good enough, in fairness to the manager he has set them up to make them difficult to beat.
I would love to see a ball carrying box to box centre midfielder and a striker come in and looking ahead to our September fixtures, the team can feel optimistic for the next four matches.
Brighton away on October 3rd will be our 10th game of the league campaign and the way things are shaping up it could just be a top of the table clash.
At the beginning of the season, I asked what fans thought what points we would get from the first 5 games. I wrote anything less than 8 would be disappointing but 10 would be good, I am happy with 9 and unbeaten.
Yesterday was a great day and with just 1 away fixture in September away to Rotherham and the other 3 games at home, without getting carried away and keeping our feet firmly on the ground I am looking forward to the month but just hope that confidence and belief is growing within the squad.

Confidence and Belief also applies to the supporters

It is time to back Slade and forget the circumstances of his appointment. It would-not be the end of the world if Tan was to be proved correct in his choice of manager.

far from it.

I agree, the next 4 league games are eminently winnable especially with 3 of them being home fixtures, we need a run of wins to get the fans back and create a feel good atmosphere which the team will feed off.Winning breeds confidence and we have a good squad of players that are able to compete with any of the teams in this division.
It is a good start and I sense a feel good factor coming back to our club and hopefully the team can keep it going, we the fans have a massive role to play in supporting the manager and the team.It would be nice to hear chants in support of Russell Slade as he is starting to build a team shape and good style of play.

Good post.
Slade and the team are delivering solid performances and don't think many people can complain at our league position going into the international break. Lets add in that we are now playing in blue therefore I just hope that 'our' fans start turning up and start supporting our team. We can't change the past but I feel we are moving forward in the right direction, for all the people who don't turn up and support City any more because of the rebrand, Slades appointment blah, blah, blah then go and watch the egg chasers and p off and stop your moaning.
For everyone else lets be the 12th man and make this a season to enjoy no matter where we finish.

Agree with the OP although I think we have been in the championship long enough to know that no game is a given and September will be no easier than August. If they work like they have been then the quality will shine through, competition for places is great and we have not had that got a long time.

Good and fair post, but lets see what happens until the transfer shuts.I think Kenwynne will be go but Marshall will stay.
Happy with the start of the season though

Good post Carl, totally agree

I'm a Slade sceptic, but I don't believe in giving him flak for the sake of it. However, I do believe that Trollope has been a major factor. We must keep him if ....when?....Cymru qualify.

Why do we believe Jones will go has there been interest I missed.?

It's a very good start when you consider we were unlucky in quite a few games, and lost our best two Centre halves and Keeper for the start of the season.
We are not far off a good Championship team

My biggest worry is defensively. Sean Morrison is prone to errors. I'd like to be rid of him. Our first choice pairing should be Connolly and Manga with peltier and Fabio at full back. Malone is good cover at left back but Connolly as right back cover isn't good enough. I'd have kept oshilaja rather than loan him out and I don't see point in signing tamas.
Midfield is okay and I think Joe Ralls inclusion is having a positive impact on the team.
Up front id like us to bring in a youngster from a premier league team with pace.
The division is very open in my opinion. A lot of people said Derby would be running away with it along with boro. To me Derby have taken a huge risk appointing Paul clement who has no championship experience. Boro are doing ok but are going to miss the goals of vossen and bamford. Much as I dislike Leeds I can see them being a surprise package and in chris wood they have one of best strikers in league.
