The Malaysian billionaire stepped in to play a leading role in telling the Premier League club the Bluebirds would not be selling their skipper.

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan telephoned David Marshall to inform him he would not be joining West Brom, we can reveal.

Tan spoke directly to Marshall when West Brom’s second approach was rebuffed.

The Bluebirds insist they will not be selling any key players unless their valuation is matched by transfer bids and they have pulled the plug on West Brom's pursuit.

under contract with the Bluebirds until 2018 and manager Russell Slade sees him as a crucial part of his team if they are to build a promotion challenge.

West Brom initially moved in with what was described as a derisory initial offer and later improved that to £4.5m. Cardiff set his valuation at £5m-plus.

Things went quiet until this week when Albion renewed interest without increasing their offer, but City told West Brom they have left it too late to sign the Scottish stopper.

Marshall is keen to play Premier League football again, but it would now take an outrageous bid to prise him away during this transfer window.

Cardiff chiefs now believe it is too close to the end of the transfer window and they do not want Russell Slade’s squad to be disrupted by the loss of one of their key players after an encouraging start to the season.

Tan didn't accept it either and by all accounts he wants the debt reduced.
Maybe he's hedging that Marshall might get him more revenue in the long run, e.g. promotion.
Business is all about taking a risk now and then.

The debt never will be reduced, any more than the debt of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or most of t he leading club teams in the world. Basic economics, I'm afraid.

If I was Tan and a player under contract until 2018 told me where to go, I'd then tell them in response that I'm going to see to it that they'll rot in the reserves for the remainder of their contract with no access to the clubs training facilities and that is the end of it.

Well, like it or not, Tan has made the effort to build bridges and it appears that a number of fans are prepared to 'give him a chance' to do that...with one eye permenantly open, so to speak!

Sadly, there are a fair few (many of who have now abandoned the club, yet somewhat ironically still want to dictate what goes on there!) who are so intransigent that they cannot/will not even attempt to help build said bridge!

Tan trying (no matter how late) or some fans still looking for an excuse to knock/not attend games....
