Cardiff City sign former Watford and West Brom defender Gabriel Tamas on a one-year deal following trial stint

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=144783 :thumbright:

Cardiff City have signed Romanian international defender Gabriel Tamas on a one-year deal.

The former Watford and West Brom man, 31, has made 65 appearances for his country and had a brief trial stint with the Bluebirds last week.

And despite boss Russell Slade seemingly ruling out a move at his press conference last Friday, Tamas has now penned a deal in the Welsh capital until the end of the season with the option of a further year.

Tamas confirmed his move by posting a picture of him in a Cardiff shirt on Instagram and told the club's website: “I wanted to return to English football and out of a few offers, decided that Cardiff City was the club I wanted to come to.

“I’ve met up with the manager and a few of the boys who I remember playing against during my time in the UK.

“I’m looking forward to training with the boys and getting out there.”

Pointless. We have enough players in that position. Could do with a striker with pace and a midfield general.

if he's an upgrade on what we have then so be it, just doesn't make any sense to collect so many players in one position without departures.

Thought Catdiff were trying to cut costs?! Crying out for a box to box midfielder and a striker with pace but end up with another defender to go with the other army of defenders we have. Nice one Russ.

How about a striker that can finish? We put about 100 crosses in last night and finished one of them.

Well Turner is out for a while, leaves Manga, Conbelly And Morrisson, looks like Connolly might be needed to cover at full back,, so yes I think a centre half is needed as cover.

Tamas can play all across the back so will cover left back, centre back and right back.

the Arsenal signing Semi Ajayi is not cover for the players mentioned?

Strange signing.

As has been said, there are other areas which need strengthening. Unless there are defenders that are going to leave?

Watford fans laughed there ass of at this saying he's a bad player and a bad influence, in a position we have four good players already, well three and Morrison.

What a waste

Exactly. How the majority of fans can't see this is beyond me. Our fully fit defenders are now currently:

Left back - Fabio and Malone
Right back - Peltier and Connolly
Centre back - Manga, Morrison, Tamas, Ajayi

With Peltier and Fabio both getting injured last night, Manga only just returning to fitness, Ajayi being one for the future and Turner still being out for a while; signing Tamas, who can play across the whole of the back 4 makes perfect sense. I also think Tamas will be an upgrade on our main weakness, Morrison.

found some reviews of one of his performances from the Watford forum: To balance it out, i'll put on the best and worst reviews.

he has great distribution but is not the greatest defender.

Watch the highlights. I still say that it was no penalty, he has to be allowed to challenge for the ball.

My first game this season and no axe to grind with him, but....for 30 mins the fella was shocking beyond words. Am ashamed to say that the first thought in my mind when he went down was thank goodness get him off. That thought quickly evaporated as it was obvious he was seriously hurt. To cheer any pro badly injured is disgusting beyond words and quite a few did......shame shame and more shame on the ones that did

Have to put this one on as it made me laugh:

An enigma.

Great with the ball.

Rubbish without it.

End.

Him and Morrison hitting the town no doubt. :ayatollah:

Peltier
O'Keefe
Doyle
Revell
Tamas
Ajayi

Am I missing any of the totally uninspirational signings made by Slade?

I don't count Kennedy as I feel he is a decent prospect.

City desperately need a decent striker and a attacking midfield player.

Slade is a clown - if there's one thing we don't need it's more defenders. We are crying out for a box to box midfielder to replace the passenger in games Whittingham.

Best signing was McAleny....a loan one! Says it all, though Malone has been crackin so far this season and Kennedy is full of potential.

He's a pain in the arse joey Barton, horrible player to play against, I would love him in the team, I will get slated for this but I would get Frazier Campbell on loan till the end of the season, will score goals at this level and has no chance in palace

After suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in September 2014, Tamaş cancelled his contract with Watford in January 2015.[14] On 15 January 2015 he signed a 2 year contract with Steaua București, the great historic rival of his former club Dinamo București. After a few months playing for Steaua București, he was dismissed because he drinked a lot with a few friends and he was not able to come to training. Steaua's manager, Mirel Rădoi, said that Gabriel Tamaș lied to him, saying that his phone alarm didn't work.

From his Wikipedia, I know that anyone can edit it but still. Back to the Dave Jones/Bothroyd/Chops era?

Absolutely unbelievable, what was the point in signing Ajayi?
He must be totally motivated now
Probably appropriate time to have a rant about Kennedy too, one of the players, looking forward to watching this season, not given a sniff!

This signing makes no sense at all unless Manga is going?

I can see your points regarding some of the injuries, but 100% cannot accept Peltier being included in your argument. He cannot be considered as being injured when Slade brought him on in midfield when Kennedy (desperately in need of game time) was left with splinters in his arse.
:sladeout: clueless

He can also play in midfield, perhaps that is where Russell is going to play him, or cover for right back? being as Peltier is injured and he played in midfiels for part of the game last night (Ithink) it was him)
