" THE PLAYERS WHO FAILED LAST NIGHT "

By Steve Tucker

Aron Gunnarsson,due to injury

Icelandic warrior Gunnar was selected in the starting line-up and warmed up. - but then he was gone!

Suddenly, Joe Ralls was playing alongside Stuart O’Keefe through the middle as it was revealed Gunnarsson had strained a groin pre-match and couldn’t play.

The change happened in time for Slade to add a new player to his bench and that was Theo Wharton. But for Gunnarsson it was a miserable evening.

Eoin Doyle

Things are not falling for the Irishman right now. He scored 30 goals last season and came to Cardiff with a big reputation as a natural goalscorer, albeit at lower league level.

He netted five goals for City last season, but he’s going through a tough time.

Doyle made his runs and kept chasing but he needs a touch of luck. The key is for Doyle to stay positive and maintain his work ethic.

Matty Kennedy

What’s happened to the 20-year-old winger? He has yet to make a first team appearance this season despite being one of the most impressive players last term. He was an unused substitute in City’s Capital One Cup ties against AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons.

He has quick feet, he’s tricky and can be effective, but he has had to be patient. Pilkington, Ralls, Noone and Ameobi are all ahead of him in the pecking order and Kennedy must keep focused and take his chance when it comes.

The problem is that now Cardiff are out of the cup it’s difficult to see where and when that chance will come.

Paul, I felt the same about what Tucker has written.

How can Gunnerson fail,if he got injured ?

idiotic, just writing things for the sake of it.

Havent seen anything of the game personally, but heard that we played very well for about 60 mins. I'd rather focus on the positives and hopefully take them into the game on saturday :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The game was turned by MK Dons bringing on 3 subs and turning it around.

City bring on 3 lack lustre subs in Peltier, Macheda and Dikajchoi.

Enough said.

Would love to see MK Dons manager down the City instead of the bald buffoon and Young.

Gunner and Kennedy didn't fail!!! They didn't bloody play. The ones who failed are Connolly (not a full back), Doyle and possibly Moore who could perhaps have done better with equaliser.

The other flop was Macheda who looked disinterested and tired.

Annis why have you posted only part of the article? The missing part highlighted three players who the writer thinks impressed.Seems reasonable to me to discuss the players who came well out of last night and those who didn't ( for whatever reason). Oh, and according to my link to WOL it was written by Terry Phillips not Steve Tucker.

To be fair, Annis has posted both sides.

Just what I was thinking.

Hard for Kennedy to fail with zero minutes on the pitch this season.

What a shit article.

City played really well last night, some excellent passing, and used the width of the pitch and at times city were enjoyable to watch.

However, Doyle had one or two chances, if it was any other day, I believe he would have scored, but with lack of game time and match practice, you can give him the benefit of doubt.

Connolly Playing full back didn't help the situation last night either, being asked to play centre back one game, then playing full back the other isn't an ideal scenario for a player. Especially when preparing for last few weeks in training as a centre back and switch all of a sudden changes the players game time mentality.

For me, city were well in control last night, up until they equalised, and all of a sudden the momentum was all MK Dons. The subs used by MK Dons changed the game for me and were used the right time. For us, our subs were used incorrectly for the first time this season, I felt if we needed to see the game out, we should have gone 4-5-1 and brought the extra centre midfielder.

It was unfortunate for us Gunnar was injured last night, but for me, it does show we are missing a midfield general who can boss the game.

Additionally, the other problem is, as a team we are just trying to hold on to 1-0 lead and see the game out. We paid the price against Blackburn and we paid the price last night.

I can imagine some people will be saying we are glad we're out of the mickey mouse cup and we should concentrate on the league. Sorry, I really felt we should have won last night, and with the line up we had, we had every opportunity of winning the game.

Finally, well done to all the fans who travelled last night and fair play to the Stewards at MK Dons, very friendly and really good stadium to visit.

It is somewhat ironic (or maybe not! ;) ) that Media Wales HQ is literally next door to one of the city's Comedy Clubs and Tucker is rarely seen after dark...

I think he's moonlighting as the popular 'Steve Stoned; Comedian Extraordinaire' ;) :laughing6: :laughing6:

I cannot believe that Steve Tucker is still in a job??? If there were prizes dished out for bad journalism, then he would win them all...Awful, lazy reporting.

If injury equals failer. You can add these other players who 'failed' last night-

Darren Purse for being in the crowd
John Toshack for being retired
Fred Keynor for being dead

Lightweights the lot of them
