A shame we went out but now we can aim full focus on the league! We seemed to have many chances tonight but didn't convert them? Well just the 1! Not confident with any of our strikers apart from Jones!

The 'focus on the league' argument is nonsense. We got to a final in 2008 and 2012 and our league performance overall wasn't hindered in either campaign. If anything, the cup run in 2012, even though we lost on pens, boosted team spirit and brought the squad together under Malky which in turn helped us push toward a successful promotion campaign the next season. It instilled a sense of belief and 'can do' spirit into the side. If you get injuries in cup games that interfere with the league then that isn't anything to do with the cup. Its everything to do with poor management and not ensuring the squad has enough quality in depth to see out all competitions throughout the season.

Our cup final in 2012 drastically hindered our league form. We went on a terrible run of results before the final and after we put everything into the final, we then ran out of steam in the league and got thrashed by West Ham in the playoffs. This was because we played our first team in the latter stages of the cup as the draw was kind to us and we had a great opportunity to continue advancing to the next round, but we lacked strength in depth and the amount of games unfortunately caught up with our players. Look up our league results before and after the final and you'll see for yourself.

What about 2008? Its a nonsensical argument anyway. You play to win everything.

Balkan, are you seriously crying over the fact we lost a minor cup match?

To be honest I can't remember if our league form got affected as far back as 2008. I agree you play every game to win, but I also 100% believe this cup competition was the least of our priorities this season and should only be used as an opportunity for other players to have a run out and try to impress.

Minor? No game is minor. You play to win every game. The fact is, Slade will not be happy about exiting a competition so early on because its one less cup he can possibly win or go on a run in. That is why he put out a fairly strong side and not a bunch of youth players. Slade played to win, set up the team to win, and we lost. If we had won everyone would be gloating saying its great to go through to the next round of the cup and possibly another run on the cards.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I honestly believe that a cup run in the League Cup could have given Slade an opportunity to get the team spirit boosted and get the entire squad and fans to believe in him. He has now lost that opportunity. Some of the players may burden the blame for tonights defeat and respond. Others might not because they do not believe in Slade themselves and simply couldn't care less. Football is very much about man management and a sense of belonging and belief is what Slade needed before anything.

I don't disagree with you, but I think the team spirit will be fine if we keep winning league games and keep towards the top of the table. I don't think many of us will care about tonight's result if we manage to win at Forest Saturday. Let's just agree to disagree for now and see what happens.

"Concentrate on the league" is one of the most annoying phrases in football at the moment. This early on we need to get in as many games as possible. I am always disappointed when we lose cup games, not with Slade though, with the players. Slade respected the tournament and put a very capable team out.
It's a shame that young fans like Jon see the premier league as the be all end all of being a fan of a club, plastic tw*t. Our one season in the premier league proved that it most certainly isn't.

I'm disapointed we are out of the cup and was looking forward to seeing the next round but it is possible to pick up injuries or be injured by another player in Every match u play in (the cup included). Towards the end of the season we became shattered before and after Wembley it was like we had run out of fuel! U can often see that pattern with many teams who get to semis and final. However a cup run would have been exciting and yes it would have lifted the spirits but I believe that slade is already doing this.vwhat I was most disapointed about is the fact we had many chances to score and only put one away. Jones has this ability of perhaps being quiet in games for a while but all of a sudden he will have a chance and score out of nothing! I just don't believe that Doyle, macheda or Revell are good enough if every game we play is set out to win. Mason and Jones are our best strikers in my opinion and that after watching them in most games this season and last. No disrespect to the others as they work thier socks off, but it's a results biz end of. Lots of big teams go out in the cup early on but was disapointed we went out so early on. We ll have the FA cup in January anyway! keep the lads fresh for as long as u can in the season as due to the number of games towards the latter stages they tired and it affects results!

It was certainly disappointing for those that travelled and saw our team put in a decent performance until tiredness too over in Extra Time!
Trust me, the team went to win (probably should have) and fans should take every game as a truly competitive one with the aim of progressing to the next round, as it gives 'returning from injury' and 'fringe' players a great opportunity to show what they can do in properly competitive conditions IMHO!

Would've been nice to go to the next round yeah but it's certainly not something to dwell on. On the list of priorities the Capitol One Cup is on the bottom of the list unless you become an established Premier League club (like Swansea) and want to start winning trophies. Until then the number one priority is always climbing up the football league ladder.

WHethersett he is or isn't is irrelevant.
There's too much of this 'oh well it was only the Cup' or that Championship Team are one of the favourites so loosing or drawing with them is only to be expected'.
Are City Supporters like me in the minority in thinking we should try and win every game we play in.
I don't want complacency or submission from my club, players, groundstaff or even the effin ball boys. In return they'll get my full commitment.
Stop looking for excuses!

Before last night people on here were posting who they would like in the next round. Did'nt read much about the cup not being important until after we lost. A complete load of rubbish. The season is early and a good cup run is good for the fans and the players, as well as being a confidence booster if you can get a couple of good wins behind you. This match means we have now won twice in six competitive games this season, and it's looking more and more likely that Jones is the only striker we have who is likely to get into double figures this season.
