' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

With season ticket sales no more than 10,000 and 12,000 Season ticket holders less than two years and with City having a fairly good start, with both League attendances at a record low City will be meeting Supporters groups once again to talk about how to get the fans back.
City even let fans pay £10each for the Wolves game with a season ticket holder and even that attendance was a new record low

City have stuck to their part and produced a quality BLUE home strip :bluescarf:

So what can they do?

My opinion we had thousands of Glory hunters who endorsed the red and had the live or care for Cardiff City, just Premier League at all costs and then gone as a quick as they arrived, for me they can stay away :ayatollah:

Our fans are the problem, the club is trying everything to make up for the last few years. Yes they won't get everyone back on side as not everyone will forgive, but they're trying their best.

The problem is that our fans have to high expectations and still expect millions to be spent on the team. The fact is that FFP are hitting us hard, whether Tan is willing to spend or not. We can't keep living outside our means, as is the same with many other clubs. Sooner expectations are lowered and people accept Slade and the fact we can't spend millions, the sooner the atmosphere around the Cardiff City will improve bringing back more fans. Obviously the more games we win will bring back many also.

Whatever people think it is not about the colour of the strip. This only placated a small but vocal minority.

Being blunt, most of the missing 12k only came for the Premier League. Others only come when pushing for promotion and the rest want entertainment for the extortionate prices we pay in the English league.

The crowds at the moment are standard fair for Cardiff City. If people think we are bigger, they are wrong. We do not have a large hard core, follow blindly, level of support. A team for life died many years ago.

The crowds are what they are and only success (or prices like the Bundesliga) will increase them.

Only 2 years ago we were selling out 28,000 and we had 14k Saturday so 50% of our 'fans' have vanished...

Agree entirely with this we are back to the ninian park hardcore the no shows just making same tired excuses after all you can get a interest free season ticket pay monthly so cost should not be a problem after all they all found the cash in the prem :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Re: ' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

Being constantly told to sit down not sing etc and killing an atmosphere in the ninian stand is a main factor for a group i know, they feel the whole matchday experience has gone when all they where doing was getting behind the team.

And before anyone says move to the canton not everyone likes to watch the game from behind the goal.

How many times have we heard over the years that Cardiff are a sleeping giant and once we reach the premier league you will see the true fan base?

In reality we have a core support of around 10000 fans around another 5000 who will turn up every now and then, the rest will only turn up for premier league football or a big team in the cups.

I have said before that we are in danger of losing a generation of fans.

What do they charge in Germany Bunds for a season ticket????

If I can get a job down there, first thing I'll do is get a season ticket :D :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: ' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

In fairness the price structure is reasonable however the club should next season follow Bradfords example and charge 200 quid for adults and 50 quid for kids season tickets in all areas apart from executive and Grandstand.

In the meantime the football in the community should be giving out free tickets to schools across South Wales from Pembrokeshire to Chepstow and up as far as Aberystwyth. The free tickets should be for upper ninian and should include a 10% off voucher for club shop and the option to buy a ticket for next match for a fiver for kids and tenner for their parents.

I've not been to a game yet. Not because I'm disloyal but I was at a wedding on Fulham game and I couldn't justify travelling over from Hampshire for wolves game when I've got sky. Can't go to Huddersfield game either as my eldest son is moving out to university on that day. Many people miss games in August due to family holidays etc.

I work with people who openly admit that they were only bluebirds for the premier league season, and dropped off back to being armchair top 4 fans, when we were relegated.

I really like this idea. Start looking at the long term, winning the next generation over!

I don't think its just that there were many glory hunters, although I am sure that is one factor.

I would add the following:

1) The football city have been serving up for years, even under Malky, has been pretty shit. When Malky was here at least it was relatively successful in terms of results... but shit football none-the-less. When the success stopped the only thing left was shit football. I think many fans are just sick of it and it will take consistently good performances and exciting football to bring some fans back.

2) Some of the fans who stopped going, because of the rebrand and/or Tans approach, just got used to the economic savings and being a remote fan without parting with their cash.

3) The years and years of being told we are a sleeping giant and deserve a shot at the top raised expectations. We got there and it was shit and some fans wonder why bother craving the holy grail when its 'not all that'.

4) Shambolic running of the club - youth and development players not getting first team opportunities, playing style awful, bizarre transfers and generally a disconnection from cardiff communities

5) Falling out of love - some fans for the reasons above have just fallen out of love with the club

Bottom line is that the club needs to start connecting with their fan base not just offering cheap tickets.

My suggestions:

1) An allocation of Free tickets for all local schools and community based orgs
2) Get the players out to communities, hospitals and schools
3) Treat players BETTER!
4) Overhaul of the coaching staff and youth structures to ensure that we develop and implement at every level a consistent and attractive style of football
5) More collaborations between fans and club

And obviously just getting better on the pitch.

Swansea have been doing this for years encroaching into our territory in the valleys etc.

Ccfc have been complacent over support for years and the rebrand has added to loss of fans to other clubs. Marketing has been dire.

The club needs to follow the business model adapted by companies such as Easyjet, Ryanair and Travel lodge which is to charge ultra cheap prices for basic product to ensure full capacity. Make extra money on merchandise, food and drink.

The jacks are setting up centres in Cardiff and surrounding areas so why don't we give free tickets to schools on their stomping ground and make a great day our for the kids.

Only problem is some may be supporting the opposition :laughing6: :laughing6:

Re: ' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

It's not so much half our fans has stopped going, but go alot less frequently. So it's not like all our fans have given up, there's just not alot that will turn up week in week out regardless like some clubs. That and the glory fans leaving.

Imo the only way we'll see a return is if we stay in and around the top 6 and play good football/ make a few exciting signings too and people will want to come and see them play. But the main thing is winning games simple as.

Well you can keep your opinion I am no glory hunter ( you don't even know me) to even qualify me for that one just shows me how out of touch you really are.

My (or our) reasons for not coming are mainly the style under the past few managers and as someone has pointed out the shambolic way the club has been run and treatment of us so called fans.

If ever a club has done its best to alienate its core fans then they would get 100 out of 100 for that :digging2:

What they don't realise is that they may never get them back :digging2:

By the way I know far more supporters who don't go anymore after supporting the club from 15 yrs up than I do ones who have just gone in the past 5 yrs. :old:

Muppets run the club and some muppets follow it :sladeout:

Re: ' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

All clubs look at these situations too late in the season and when I mean too late I mean when Season Tickets go on sale. The club have then fixed a price that they cannot go below on a match by match basis.

As soon as you start selling cheap tickets ST holders will complain. I personally wouldn't care as a ST was bought to guarantee a seat IF we had a good season but many ST holders would expect their outlay per game to be the best value for money and rightly so.

As per all clubs the short term greed kicks in when selling ST's. It's only when they see a downturn in walk ups that they start to fret. You reap what you see. Stop relying on fans for income and lower prices THEN you get them back. That or win every week.

Here's a snippet about a piece on Dortmund...

..... Football is all encompassing here, it reaches ever facet of life. One fan even leaves the club shop having just bought a Borussia Dortmund-branded lawn mower. The chance to experience this love affair is attracting more than 1,000 fans from England to every home match.

It is a scarcely believable figure, but walk around the stadium and British accents are audible among the 80,000 at Signal Iduna Park. "We jump on the Channel Tunnel train," says Matthew Gerrard, from Kent.
"We make a weekend of it. With tickets, accommodation, transport, this trip will cost £65. When you think it cost me £51 to see the Arsenal game last season, you can see the benefits."

Another group soaking up the beer and bratwurst outside the stadium are wearing Stoke shirts, while there are also fans from Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Port Vale. When you discover that the majority of Dortmund's 55,000 season-ticket holders have paid an average of £9 to see this match, this influx begins to make perfect sense.

Jack, a Chelsea fan, is here with two of his friends from London.
"Prices are too high in England," he says. "But here, everything is cheap. It's a better experience for the fan and the atmosphere is incredible."

Dortmund are increasingly aware of the English invasion. The club has even begun to conduct stadium tours in English. "It's amazing," says marketing director Carsten Cramer. "It's always nice when English fans tell me that including the cost of a flight, two beers and a ticket, they do not pay more than a match in England. .....

We are not unique all clubs would face a loss of support after relegation followed by a season of poor football. The Championship is littered with examples Middlesbrough, Nottingham F Etc.

It would be completely against the laws of football if we didn't attract thousands of extra supporters by playing in the Premiership. We saw the same phenomenon at the Millennium Stadium in 2003 and again at Wembley in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

There are some good ideas floating around Gareth Wilts has some great ones. But ultimately we have to be successful to pull the fans in again.

One other thing when we reach Wembley again at some point (probably this years PO Final) I hope when this board is flooded by thousands of 'hard done by fans' claiming their sense of entitlement to a ticket, everyone remembers and asks the question 'where were you against Wolves?'

I didn't renew this year for the first time in three decades not for any other reason than losing 15hrs a week at work. Priorities lay elsewhere. I really do miss it. Hopefully in the next three months this should resolve itself and if they're available I will purchase a half season ticket :ayatollah:

Dortmund is less than £200 for the cheapest adult seat, I believe.

Makes me sad that what a force we could be.

We're a city of 350,000 people. Added with our surrounding metropolitan area, we have an estimate population of 1,100,000. Yet, we're struggling to get 15,000 people at the CCS. Winning games will get the 'fans' back, even if they are glory hunters.

This is a massive problem at the moment,no consistency in the bully boy stewarding.Constantly being told to sit down,no looking at the away fans etc yet over the years at the ccs certain big games they let you stand and generate some noise(only when it suited them).I was told 11 people either left of their own accord or were told to on Saturday for standing!!
CCS-the most boring place on the planet!

Trust and a exciting football.
I can count over 20 people who started to come when we went upto to the championship but drifted away this year. Still Cardiff fans but not "Supporters" anymore.
Bums on seats come with a quality fare on offer. A few more wins and a name or two and it will pick up. However the main core of floating fan needs to see winning football. That will be a slow burn and cannot be rushed.

Re: ' CITY LOOKING TO GET THE FANS TO RETURN '

Tue Aug 25, 2015 12:51 pm

The five year price freeze I think had an affect, now that's over think that has affected attendances, also last season the football we were playing was dire and we weren't winning matches just drawing most of them, it's hardly going to entice the floating fans.
I think if we start winning a few games and are near the top of the table the fans will start coming back
