Russell Slade is smiling, but the jury's still out after 2-0 victory over Wolves

Slade was in bullish mood after his side's first home win of the season, but doubts still remain says our man Steve Tucker

Russell Slade

It is sometimes easy to forget that football managers are human too, subject to the same hopes and fears as the rest of us and as susceptible to criticism too as we mere mortals.

One was reminded of this when Cardiff City boss Russell Slade faced the media following his side’s first win of the Championship season, an ultimately deserved 2-0 victory over Wolves which, like the falling rain in the Welsh capital, seemed to grow in intensity as time went on.

Unprompted really, Slade suddenly announced to all who would listen: “Everybody thought I’d be down the road by the end of August, but we're in good shape.”

Cardiff City fans' ratings: Fabio top of the class after Wolves win
Slade is right on both counts, sort of.

Against Wolves the Bluebirds – still unbeaten this season remember – put in arguably their most complete performance under their current boss.

Kenny Jackett’s side are many people’s tips to be pushing for promotion, but Cardiff had their measure on them which has surely got to bode well moving forward.

Are you happy with the progress being made under Russell Slade?

Slade is right to have his say.

The task he was given when he arrived was a difficult one i.e.

1. reduce the wage bill
2. reduce the paying squad (which was huge)
3. develop a team to go back to the premiership

Most City fans only look at point 3 however they are blind and had we carried on much longer in the Ole spree we would have been bust. No matter what Slade does this season I will always have respect for him in term of what he's done in the past 12 months and it was no easy job and it definitely wasn't made any easier by our fans who simply expect us to be in the Premiership at any cost.

I'm no fan of Steve Tucker but you have to admit that he's right. The Bluebirds have finally got their first three points of the season and Russell Slade has got to build on that! let's hope there's plenty more still to come. Can't wait to see a Jones and Ameobi partnership lol
