"I'd rather be blue in league two"

Sun Aug 23, 2015 4:03 pm

What a load of bollocks that was!

We had more fans attending games when we played in red. Just goes to show people were using the rebrand as an excuse not to go to games because really they don't want to go anyway. Watching us play in that massive stadium to a pitiful crowd is just embarrassing. We all heard people say they would rather be blue in league two, well I shudder to think what are crowds would be like down there.

Agree ,I spoke to loads of so called city fans drinking in town yesterday but weren't going to the game and were going to the pub instead

I think we both know what the crowd would be like. Same as last time we were down there, anywhere between 4 and 8,000 depending on how well we were doing, and who we were playing. Less if we were down towards the bottom.

And when these so called fans were there all they did was boo and criticise when we couldn't beat the Chelsea's,Man Utd's,Arsenal's etc. All full of shit.

I still stand by that statement :bluescarf:

Without doubt if the choice was blue in league 2 or red in premier it would be the lower league for me.

I don't believe no one thought the crowds would come back by going back to blue. However if we had not gone back to blue our crowds would have returned to league 2 status and those pulling the purse strings knew that.

Rubbish, absolute rubbish.

It was the Colchester FA cup game which changed Tans mind. I bet if we played that same fixture in the same circumstances this season we wouldn't see a much bigger attendance. We were told time and time again that people were boycotting and loads of hardcore fans weren't bothering anymore, I think they still are by the looks of it.

So you saying we would have held the crowd we have now if we stayed red?

I'm saying there wouldn't be a significant difference. No doubt there are fans who have come back but not in the numbers that were expected. I highly doubt we would go under 10k in this division in red or blue.

Oh and yesterday was the lowest attendance for a league game at the CCS in history beating the previous record set.... two weeks ago.

That blows your theory out of the water, crowds have got worse.

Well I'm saying there would be. If it was guaranteed we would have stayed around 10K we would still be in red.

So you agree with me then.

Tan like everyone else thought that if we went back to blue the masses would come back, he took a punt after the Colchester game and changed us back to our rightful colours. However they haven't come back, in fact crowds have got worse. It was just an excuse for people including some "high profile" fans to not bother go to games because they don't really want to.

I commended all those that boycotted and called for a mass boycott of games myself but how many of the boycotters have come back and how many of them were boycotting before the rebrand. The evidence suggests the overwhelming majority were.

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

Sun Aug 23, 2015 5:37 pm

But certain fans still aren't turning up because we haven't still got the proper Cardiff City back. We don't have our proper badge back, it doesn't bother me too much and I will always attend, but I completely understand fans staying away because they don't feel Tan has completely reversed the rebrand.

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

Sun Aug 23, 2015 5:39 pm

I will never step foot in the stadium again whilst Tan is the owner. Yes, I have probably got a long wait on my hands but so be it.

There is some serious scraping of the barrel if you are boycotting due to a badge. Why can't people just admit they don't want to go. If we change badges they will find something else to boycott about:

They don't sell real ale, I can't drink that rubbish especially in a plastic cup, I'm BOYCOTTING!

We have white bits on the kit, we should play in a full blue kit, I'm BOYCOTTING!

I want to sit in the new stand but it's close, I'm BOYCOTTING!

The new stand has red seats, I'm BOYCOTTING!

It's just not ninian park, I'm BOYCOTTING!

Atmosphere is rubbish, I'm BOYCOTTING!

Slade in charge, I'm BOYCOTTING!

What I'm saying is the U-turn stopped an exodus of fans not renewing.

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

.... And now we have less fans than we had last season. I am glad he U-turned but it hasn't improved our crowds by the amount it should have, people are still staying away.

Did anyone say it would have improved the crowds? I don't recall anyone but I do believe many believed it would stop a mass walkout.

Have it my way we wud be in the premier league but in blue too!

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

I weren't embarrassed by the crowd. Decent atmosphere in the canton, small queue for a half time pint and no queue for a piss.

Bakedalasker wrote:You will be surprised how many will renew if we acted like a normal club. However we are not normal so its impossible to tell.

We changed back to blue and as far as I am aware we are behaving as normal as normal can be for a championship team.

Bakedalasker wrote: I certainly believe the rebrand has lost us die hard fans and that number is in the thousand, perhaps thousand with an s on the end.

This is quote from you where you say thousands of people are staying away due to the rebrand, we are back in blue now. Where are the missing thousands?

Bakedalasker wrote:The only thing needs changing are the shirts and they would have to be changed anyway come the new season.

I would say its in the thousand how many we have lost.

Our high attendances are down to our league position nothing to do with red. Well actually if we were blue our attendances would be higher. I mean no one is going to leave if we suddenly turn to blue overnight are they?

Here you admit that it's down to league positions, which is what I have been getting at all along. Oh and we have lost fans since we changed to blue, our two lowest ever league attendances in the CCS have happened this season... in blue. That's despite having lost "thousands" of fans due to the rebrand. You hit the nail on the head in this post, "attendances are down to our league position nothing to do with red". Same applies today.

I could get more quotes from you and others to reaffirm my believe that the general consensus (including mine) was that turning back to blue would increase crowds as the thousands of supposed boycotters would return. This has turned out to be bullshit.

A lot of the anti Tan stuff was bullshit. Anything and everything was used to have a go at him. Most was crap.

1948 you are absolutely bang on for me in this thread. I don't usually comment on it all, cos quite frankly, im no good at putting my thoughts down and backing up my opinion like the way you and similar posters can, . But what you've put down are my thoughts exactly

Modern football is what its down to but people like to make excuses to hide the fact they don't go anymore, its an entertainment thing now for most and if there not getting it they go to the cinema on a sat afternoon and so be it, football has lost touch with its fans over money and couldn't give to hoots about them either.
People who once loved the club years ago don't as much these days its a simple fact. I go when I can to all home games unless there's a whopper money spinner on with work.
Years ago I would go out my way not to miss a game now its not worth it for me there's many things more important than a modern soul-less football club

Cheers Mo and Carpe.

I am the same Ian, even though I have a season ticket I won't go to every game anymore. I used to go religiously, never missed a game and missed many events due to the city and that's only going back 5 years ago. Nowadays if iv'e got plans or something comes up on the day of a home game I will miss the game. This is partly due to the match day experience being pretty poor.

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

Agree with the OP.

People have always stopped going down the City, for whatever reason. Like selling Toshack. Others take their place. Some stay whatever. Our crowd yesterday reflects where we are. Similar to a few others in the Championship. Personally, I enjoyed the game, thought we played well, and the atmosphere was OK. Saw my first game in 1968, so seen a few ups and downs. As far as I'm concerned, the rebrand has been reversed. It's still Cadiff City for me. But if people don't want to go, then fair enough. Nothing new under the sun.

Be interesting to see the crowd if we get a few good results with that being a mate scheme done for a 3pm kick off for a game not on sky 3pm on a sat.

Not meeting Ninian Park capacity is frankly appalling.

Re: "I'd rather be blue in league two"

Sun Aug 23, 2015 10:26 pm

Will be interesting to see our next home attendance as the 1st game was rugby on in the millennium and last game was on sky.next game is a 3pm kick off.
