wingers are dead

I have been thinking this for ages ( in a 442)

Wolves seriously loaded the flanks today and let Whitts & Dikachoi run the show

Their who tactic was to pass it about the back 4 and hit balls in the channels which our full backs ate up. On paper all that pace should have destroyed us, but for that pace to be effective you need to also own the middle, which I believe Wolves gave up.

I still can't believe the clamor for Noone to be reinstalled as a starter after last seasons performances and put Ralls inside. Ralls isn't a winger nor was cowie but they did a job and their extra strength and passing ability makes you are tougher and more compact unit.

Ole tried to play 442 with Whitts, gunnar and 2 lightweight skillful wingers and we got overrun. Malky never trusted Nooney or his type and was an inpact sub if something needs to happen

looks like Russ has stumbled upon this theory but what cover left and right do we have if pilks or ralls gets injured other than nooney ?

Intersting point... as for cover Fabio or John could potentially play as wingers that offer decent defensive cover if Pilks was injured and if Ralls was injured we could play Whitts in his place as a left sided Midfielder with Gunners or O'Keefe in the centre?

agreed I think the balance looks good with ralls playing inside left, an overlapping left back and then pilks a bit wider on the right.

Noone would leave the two cm exposed.

Cover?... Kennedy, ameobi, noone for pilks. Or if ralls then maybe move whitts to inside left and bring in one of our cm's.
