'Cardiff City fans don't appreciate Alex Revell... they only see a snapshot of him on a Saturday' - Russell SLADE

Friday 21st August 2015

By Steve Tucker

Slade said supporters failed to notice what Revell brought to the Cardiff side as they did not regularly see the way he performed on the training ground.

Alex Revel is not a fans' favourite

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade believes first choice striker Alex Revell is not being appreciated enough by Bluebirds supporters.

The frontman has started all three opening Championship games for the Bluebirds and their Capital one Cup win over AFC Wimbledon too, but is yet to open his scoring account for the campaign.

Signed by Slade from Rotherham for £175,000 in January, the 32-year-old did find the net twice in 17 appearances for Cardiff at the back end of last term.

So far this season Revell’s performances have drawn mixed reviews from fans with many bewildered that last season’s top-scorer, Kenwyne Jones, has so far failed to break into Slade’s starting XI.

I'm sorry but I've yet to see him have a really good game for us. He scored a good goal last season, but that's about it.

I would have Kenwyne Jones, Joe Mason, Eoin Doyle and even Macheda ahead of him.

Hope he can prove me wrong.

I'm not doubting his work effic, he's really hard working and you cannot fault him for that, he's just not good enough

I could say that about a few more who are in his first team so far, they maybe wonders on the training pitch but are crap when it comes to the games that count!

Is there a quote from Slade about this or is Wales Online twisting words again?

I am all for supporting Russell Slade but i definitely think that he's backing a loser in Revell. I think Revell is way out of his depth trying to play in the Championship and the sooner that Russell Slade realizes this the better it will be for the club, squad and the player himself. :bluescarf:

There's more to the game than just scoring goals.

We've had a few very good strikers over the years who have scored low numbers, but in the Sky and stat obsession era players general contributions get ignored.

Revell won't score a load and won't take us up, but I'd bet we have scored as many when he's played as we have when Jones has, due to him making space for others.
Last year we under performed due to a split squad and bad eggs. Guys like Peltier and Revell have good attitudes and help settle things down.
Eventually I'm sure we will get better players in, but for now they have managed to help shore is up into a solid team.

The team doesn't win points on the training ground. I understand the fact that when players do well in training, they are putting themselves forward for selection and if they don't train well, they could rule themselves out of selection. Revell is a very good team player but sometimes we need something else to take us into the top 6 and in my opinion,he doesn't offer that touch of class.

I thought we had only scored 1 goal when Revell was on the pitch this season? Small sample, granted, but his "hard work" so far has not generated goals for team mates.

Am no Revell fan but to be honest, we haven't Seen that much of him. I do agree that you need these types of players. I see some posts saying peltier is shit!! What cos he doesn't catch the eye, bomb up the wing and do anything flamboyant!! He's a decent solid right back

Useful bench player not much else.

I remember watching him chase the ball right along the back four last season as the opposition almost taunted him, he was never going to win the ball on his own with nobody closing with him.
Some of the crowd cheered and thought this was great, 'what a workhorse', I personally wondered 'what a waste' he's just wasted unnecessary energy.
I'd much rather he had that bit of extra sharpness in &around the box to get a few more goals?
He's just not good enough, he'll still start tomorrow mind

I'd be more concerned as to what the other striker was doing.
Somebody closed the Blackburn keeper down on Tuesday to force the poor clearance which won us the goal.
Who wast that ?

3 games.
I'm talking about all of last season.
Results improved later in the season and we've become a tougher side to play against.

He works hard but hasn't shown any promise. Always thought he was a weird signing. Slade obviously sees something in him.

Yet again Slade doesn't know what he is talking about, most City fans i speak to and the same on this forum, say the same thing, a good honest hard working player, he gives everything in every game he plays unfortuently he just an average player in the Championship, and any player who gives 100% get the support from our Fans, but we do have better players on the bench:sladeout: :bluescarf:

Most strikers are judged on goals scored Tim & unfortunately for Revell his record has never been much good and doesn't look likely to change now.
Being a hard worker, you could potentially get away with it if your co striker is scoring for fun, which has never happened since he's been here. He might be an easy target but to me and many others, he's not good enough to be a success at this level.
